Thread: For once SA Rugby didn't stand back for the soccer!

Thumbs up For once SA Rugby didn't stand back for the soccer!

Ok, I'm not a soccer fan and can't stand the sport. It is rediculas that other sports have to stand back for the stupid sport and FIFA's stupid rules, but for once rugby came out the winner in this round!

South African Rugby Union president Mr Oregan Hoskins on Tuesday confirmed that the Springboks’ test against France on June 12 would take place at Newlands as initially planned.

When has Rugby ever stood for football
It's always the reverse in this country esp. as Rugby owned most of the decent stadia - but that's obviously going to change.

Why? who would want to watch PSL matches when the Currie Cup, not to mention the Super 14/15/16 is obviously more popular?
Yes, PSL matches will be played in the new facilities, but Rugby will get the preference.

For a start the rugby had to stand back last year and will need to stand back again this year - I personally think it is bull*****!. How will that change? Rugby still own the stadia and will do so unless the soccess franchises buy them out (which I can't see happening). So rugby has got first choice in what is happening in their stadiums during normal seasons.

Where Rugby own the stadia no one disputes they have first right. It is just that you worded your thread to sound like Rugby has always been pushed to the back all the time and that's not true.

FIFA Football World Cup > Random Meaningless test against France

Come on people, get real FIFA World Cup has slightly more importance than a once off Rugby game.

    Pfft, Rugby supporters.... :P

What are you on about? Last year Lion's tour matches were played in the same stadiums that the Confederations Cup was played in. Did you not wonder why Ellis Park's pitch looked like a disgrace.

As for those talking about rugby teams owning stadiums, I think that you need to get some facts straight. Most rugby teams don't own 'their' stadiums, they just have controling leases.
Our choices are not always our own to make.

They like to feel as important as the WC I see...
Most of them would learn & enjoy quite a lot if they opened their minds and bought a few tickets for the "biggest show on earth".
But I'm sure that's too much to ask of a SA Rugby fan

Er... soccer is already played at Ellis Park and Loftus Versveld. Don't turn this into some pissing contest, when it isn't!
