Thread: 6680 lies

    Default 6680 lies

I posted this in the Vodacom3g section as there was a section there I have been following with regards to the 6680. Thought I'd post it here as well and hope maybe somebody can inform me why I'm being lied to from every direction
Well I'm with MTN, and two weeks ago I went of to my Service providers shop, and spent about an hour trying to explain to them what is going on (I was due for an upgrade the next day)

I finally convinced them to phone their head office, which they do, and surprise surprise They tell me there are 32 in stock that just arrived, and have put my order in and I can come and collect on Friday the 27th. Of course I am as happy as can be. Friday comes and I rush through to go get my phone. Well Nobody there can remember me and dont have a clue about what I'm talking about. The manager is not there but they promise me he will phone me. Somebody else phones me and explains to me that MTN is busy doing their stock take, but they will collect the phone that night and deliver it to me on Saterday. WOW...

BWHAHAHA yes it never happens. Monday I again go in, and suddenly the phone has been held back due to problems on the network. But I again get promised a call from the manager or somebody else when the phone is available.... Never Happens.

So today I decided to phone MTN head office and well they have no clue as where I heard what I did (thank goodness I have taken down names) and say they dont have or never had stock of the 6680. They suggest I report this to the Manager of the store, or to the regional manager.. and yes... you guessed right. I cant get hold of any of them. But have been promised they will phone me back.
This is unacceptable. Moving over to Vodacom seems to be my only choice right now, Not saying they wont lie to me either as it seems to be standard practise.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear of your experience. MTNBB has mentioned in another thread that the 6680's are due for a world wide firmware upgrade. This is the reason the stock is physically here, but not yet available to customers. We plan to release this product to market with the newer firmware.

I will PM you details and assist where possible to get you the correct information.

I think this is the case with Nokia 7710, I'm really anticipating this handset ... I really hope it will be available.

i love the 7710, its the only nokia i ever liked. Now im just hoping either the groups release lots of S90 software, or an S60 emulator comes up, or nix for 7710 becomes available (id prefer the last one

    Default Thank you

I want to say thanks to MTNhandsets for the PM and the phonecall I received earlier today.

He was very helpful in explaining what is actually going on and where the miscommunication has arrived from.

    Thanks a Million.

Care to tell the rest of us where this confusion came from?

    Incompetent Store staff

Well actually it went something like this.

When I originally went into the store and asked them to please Check for the phone, they got through to somebody who knew what was going (or half so), and the phones where there and they did place the order.

When I went back. The person I spoke to originally did not relay the information to anyone else in the store, hence when I went to collect the phone nobody knew about it. MTN was also doing their stock take so they could not check up.

When I was told about the network problems, it was due to the fact that the new firmware was released and MTN are holding the phones back for the new firmware before releasing. Which was why when I phoned Morningside, they women could not find any phones in stock, even though MTNhandsets assures me the phones are there.

So basically its internal miscommunication. Joe Soap receives an email or a phone call about new phones/problems/what is happening. But does not tell Jane Soap, and she gives her customer incorrect info. Mary Soap phones Joe Soap, He remembers the email, and tells her. She tells the customer, Mary Soap does not tell anyone else about what she has heard, etc, etc. Vicious circle, But something MTNhandsets also said they are working on to try and correct, and having worked for a few Large corporates in my life, I know how it feels

Hi. These were in the warehouse a while back and were visible as 'stock' briefly whilst internal staff requisitioned them to do MTNLoaded, network and applications testing. We picked up an issue which the global firmware update will sort out and decided to hold the handsets back for the fix.

Kalvaer was understandably frustrated with the mixed message and no handset but hopefully the improved customer experience will vindicate our waiting.

    Default MTN Handsets (Headaches!!!!)

With referennce to the first Post from Kalvaer:

In March 2005 I was due to the upgrade on two of the lines (Procall 120 Vitality). As stated it was a MTN Vilality contract.

I was dead keen to get my grabby hands on the "new" iMate Pocket PC phone.

I inquired at various MTN outlets and even dialing the famous 808. Evenually I found someone at retentions that was able to help and they refered me to Ms E Pillay. Bingo! I thought I had solved my problems (WRONG!)

I was informed by Ms Pillay that I has to go through them to upgrade my Vitality contract.

Now the handsets; they were prepared to give me the iMate PPC 2020 with a pay-in amount of R1049.00 (Now I was upgrading TWO (2) lines). I request the iMate PDA2K as this PDA has wireless LAN (802.11b). I was prepared to mirgrate BOTH lines to ProCall 220 and pay up to R2000.00 per phone.

No Luck! I then settled for the iMate 2020's. After waiting nearly a week NO PDA's. Every time I phoned (and waited 1-30mins), I was told that they had ordered them. I eventually managed to contact the warehouse despatch in Midrand and was told that the iMate PPC 2020 was not beinging distributed any more as it was "END OF LIFE".

Well finally I got ONE of the TWO PDA's. The second one I had to wait another two weeks.

After all that, a real rollercoaster ride, I had TWO "old, out of date" PDA's.

Seems to me that many people have handset problems with MTN.

I think part of the problem isn't necessarily MTN's fault but more Nokia's.

My interpretation is that you can only really get your handsets through the three networks. However, Nokia South Africa launch and advertise their phones way before the networks even get a chance to "ratify" these phones. For example, the 6630 was "launched" on Nokia's website (not "coming soon") about about 6 months before I took delivery of my 6630. My feeling is Nokia shouldn't advertise their phones as available until at least one of the networks has made these phones generally available.

However, MTNSP's staff isn't off the hook in that I found their staff severely lacking in knowledge about upcoming phones. I was told by one person that "there was no such phone" - but then again I got the same story from Vodacom. This was in January.

So the "lies" that are being perpetuated are not through malice - merely ignorance and the unwillingness to acknowledge this.

    Just my Zim$25million worth.

These have been live since May - available on postpaid (contract) although not yet 'commercial'. They are MTN-MTN only.

Thank you for showing some understanding. MTN gets sample handsets ahead of time and then tests them thoroughly. This testing can take some time and the suppliers may advertise the handsets before this is complete and without our involvement. This can put us under enormous pressure, especially if competitors pass the handsets. However our general principle is to resolve issues first. After the handsets pass the tests they are ordered and the date of arrival and customs clearance is very erratic. Therefore the frontline staff generally become aware of the handset once it is placed on the system. If they were informed earlier than this we would also face criticism for being seen to make promises we actually did not have full control over.
