Default How exactly do you cancel an MTN contract?

My MTN thankfully ends next month. I have been trying for the last 2 hours to find out how or where to send the cancellation of my contract so that it will actually be noticed.
I have tried 808 and 083 1 808. Its just engaged all the time. I have phoned a couple of stores, the first one got immediately disinterested when I said I wanted to cancel my contract, not upgrade, and said I have to dial 808...
The second I pretended to be interested in upgrading just to confirm that the contract is almost at its completion, but it seems that they're all offline and they couldn't tell me anything anyway.

    Is 808 the ONLY way?

Sheesh, the sooner I'm rid of this, the better....

Fax number: 011 912 5034, fax your cancellation request to that number.

I've done this a few times now, I just called 808 asked to give my 30 days' notice that I was cancelling my contract. The don't let you give more than 30 days though, you have to time it just right. Be sure to get a reference number.

At the same time I ask them to remove my debit order, and then just pay the final invoice by cheque after making sure the debit order did not go off.

Thanks, how do you get confirmation that it was received and is being attended to? Is there a number you can call after sending your fax to get a reference number?

Some months ago ICASA ruled that all contracts must automatically end after the contract period. Not sure if this has been enforced yet.
A letter to your SP should suffice. 30 Day notice though.
Sent from my LavaTube VV e-cig.

That worries me a little. My 24 month contract ended in Feb. Been phoning etc since then. I thought that it was supposed to move to a month to month contract. Come to think of it maybe that is why they can't seem to take the momey off my account and my outstanding balance just grows. Lol.
