Thread: IS Express Customers - Have you / will you cancel?

Default IS Express Customers - Have you / will you cancel?

I've been a very happy IS Express (Axxess) customer for some time now. With all these exciting announcements in the market, I am now paying 100% too much for uncapped access, not to mention I am still rate limited during the day.

Given how good IS Express really is, I am prepared to ride this out for a month or two longer before I am forced to switch. I'm very interested to see a show of hands as to who has already switched, who is GOING to switch unless IS announces something soon, and who is prepared to continue paying the premium for the freedom to not worry about being disconnected after downloading 200gigs.

I'd wanted to create a poll, but it doesn't look like I can. Please comment.

I too am an Axxess uncapped-express subscriber. I have been happy with the level of service and availability of my line, but unfortunately at these prices money talks. I have decided to give them till the 31st to try and be competitive, else I will be forced to give one of the ISPs a go. Of course if I do get disconnected after 200GBs, I will have to come back to IS and pay the premium Here's hoping us > 200GB per month users are not disconnected and we can all enjoy cheaper bandwidth.

I Had Axxess Express IS for a year now - R999 p.m. . Downloaded a ****load in the beginning. Just checked my stats and guess what - the last three months I average about 10gigs per month Thats R100 per gig.

    So my options are -

    1) look for the cheapest 10-20gig monthly package or
    2) move to Mweb/Afrihost for R500 per month

Both options are more than I need (which I know now, after having uncapped for a year) plus the added benefit of having full speed HTTP access during the day. Currently I'm paying WebAfrica R69/gig for that privilege .

So, if I'm a typical user and given the context above, it makes sense to move. It's all month to month, so if it doesn't pan out I just move back.

Last thing, I've been very happy with Axxess. But R999 vs. my actual usage is not justifiable anymore. This, BTW, is probably how they'll be making money out of these new uncapped packages. I would hazard a guess that most peoples' usage drop dramatically after the first few months. Then the return per actual gig starts to make sense to the ISP's.

Lol, before you go cancelling anything dude, I suggest you check your usage here instead:

    http://users.isdsl.net/

Axxess' user stats page has been borked for months.

Let us know your REAL usage. :P

Too true. My usage via the Axxess control panel shows as 11GB, however my ACTUAL usage via the IS page is 176GB. Somehow Axxess forget to mention the other 165GB I used.

    *cough*cough*

Ok I averaged 80gigs per month the last 6 months. Jeez, can't remember what I downloaded.

OK, then my final answer is -

I'll stick with Axxess Express for a month or two to hear the feedback on these new Mweb/Afrihost accounts. If all is well I'll switch - 50% cheaper, plus the full HTTP speed during the day is great.

    I wouldn't even mind a 50gig capped account - if at a reasonable price.

I know that the Axxess stats were wrong, but I never knew how to find the real stats until now, thanks a lot :-)

Seems my average was about 250GB in the beginning, now it's closer to 150GB.

I for one have already cancelled my Uncapped Express account, will be moving to Mweb most likely from April.

But of course I'll be back if the Mweb service isn't any good :-)

A friend of mine has moved to the Mweb service. He has a 4mbps line. Yesterday he was throttled to around 50kb/sec during the day and then 70kb/sec in the evening. Only by 11pm did the speed start to pick up. I wouldn't mind if they shaped my line 8am - 6pm, but by the time I get home from work I'd like the full service of my 4mb line. Something to think about. Axxess at least gives me 4mb unshaped from just after 7pm, but is it worth the extra R500. Something tells me I might get a little frustrated if I was still being throttled at 10:30pm.

I see they STILL list the "after hours uncapped" product.

I'm not convinced this new account is actually the replacement for "IS Express".

Definitely...i think this is rather arrogant, or is just me?

"Watch out though as it's a shaped product that will see your p2p and newgroups working but slower than your full line speed, but what do you expect for R499?"

Lol. Looks like that's just Imagine's marketing strategy, nothing to do with IS. I'll wait for Axxess to start selling this product. But what worries me is that it would appear at first as though IS are keeping their Uncapped Express product and simply introducing a lesser product to compete with this new batch of uncapped accounts from various ISPs. So it would appear that current Uncapped Express customers are either going to have to continue paying a very high premium if they want to keep the same level of service that they are used to, or switch to one of these new accounts (even IS' own) and get used to a highly shaped, highly contended uncapped service instead.

Wish we could get some official announcement from them on this.
