no website for supersport? i want to cancel my dstv :P its too expensive
In my opinion it's not worth the money but a necesary grudge purchase if you have a family. Until recently I managed to get better TV.....
I ran into a luck, a company called infoview.tv has asked me to be a beta test subject with their new service soon to be available in South Africa. I am not sure of the ins and outs or how many folks are testing but the TV service is fantastic. (Perhaps you should give them a shout and see if you can get in on the testing.)
1 week after beta testing begun I cancelled my HD DSTV and TopTV subscriptions.
Infoview.tv gave me a set-top box and an uncapped unshapped 4mb ADSL hook up. The CEO has told me that the box will retail for under R1000, The monthly subscription will be the ADSL hookup they will offer at under R600 and they have suggested that the smallerst HD package will cost under R99 /month which will include a full Video on Demand service and a minumum of 70 full HD channels...
If I do the math this works out a great deal as most of us pay for adsl and DSTV at home so it makes sense to bundle and save.
The set top box is 4inchesx2inches with RCA out, HDMI out, 2 x USB ports, an ethernet port, usb wifi dongle and a IR remote. Pretty nifty piece of gear, as it seems to merge seemlessly with my sony entertainment centre and TV. I have not even touched the IR remote supplied as it connects to the sony TV remote much like my bluray player.
My television picks up a full 1080 signal from the box, Infoview.tv have told me that the box can actually handle double full HD but the domestic South African ADSL lines cannot handle it, apparently a 10 mb line would be needed. To bad 4K transmission is'nt happening yet cause I recon these guys would be all over it.
The great thing is the box is so small I have tucked it behind my wall mounted flat screen TV. My wife loves the fact that the remotes, decoders, wires and cables are gone.
The channel selection is fantastic with 53 US channels, 54 UK channels, 4 Adult channels, various french, german, music video channels and an unbeatable video on demand service (I have not searched and not found what I want). 70 of these channels are full HD and the rest are 720 and SD. Total TV channels 183. The box also connects my entertainment centre to the entire shoutcast live music lists. All in all this is going to be a fantastic service once they release it to the public. I feel very privalaged to be testing and will not be able to live without this service once beta testing is over. Infoview.tv well done, in my opinion your service is going to leave DSTV in the dust.....
Sounds interesting even if it sounds like an advertisement.
No advert Zamicro... Actually posted in wrong area, I was replying to another post and wasn't paying attention to which reply box or window I was using... but been pretty privileged to be testing this service. Pretty exciting to think that DSTV will actually have some real competition.. It will either make DSTV improve there current service or they are going to loose clients to this new service.. I am impressed, very impressed....
does this streaming use a lot of bandwidth?
I hardly ever watch TV anymore. Occasionally watch a DVD. Sport has been replaced by ESports like Starcraft 2 (much more interesting) and there are some really good web-series out there like "The Guild" (for nerds only).
