This may have been asked before (on a phone - so can't search) ... but does a contract holder need to RICA/register their SIMs?

I've always though it was prepaid only - but I hear it's *everyone* ...

Also had my contract sims rica'd when I did my contract renewal...

Um and when the company is the contract holder ie a work phone?

No chance, because they the company could ask for the phone/sim/number back and what recourse do I have if the next person uses the sim for nefarious purposes. At least if the phone/sim gets stolen I get a sim swap within 24 hours.

Needs to be registered to person using the phone.

This is how we do it in VSP for our Business and Corporate clients. The company assigns a juristic person. That person fills in and signs the authority form that we supply. He/She then supplies her/his documents (ID and proof of physical address). With this the company needs to supply a letter on a signed letterhead confirming that this person is the authorized juristic person for the company.

We then use his/her details to RICA the account number. All numbers on that account number will then be RICA'd with those details.

Other Service Providers and networks might do it differently. If you are not a Vodacom Service Provider Company client, I suggest you confirm with the relevant SP that you are with what their procedure is for Business/Corporate clients.

Also AlL vodacom customers have to RICA each time they do a sim swop, upgrade, add a new line or doing a talking points redemption. This also apllies if you already been RICA

Not so. We can still perform a sim swop, upgrade without RICA. For add on line, then yes, RICA needs to be complied with, as the law states that no new line may be activated without RICA registration being done. Cut off date is December. I recommend that all of you head down to your closest outlet to register for RICA and get it out of the way to prevent a mad rush before the cut of date.

When last did you do a upgrade or sim swop on your system ocleroux

I do them everyday.

I also checked now again on my sister's number (she is not yet registered), it allows me to use the sim swop functionality.....also I upgraded her line in feb....no problems even though she is not yet registered.

Something those who haven't RICA'ed their SIM Cards need to remember is:

You cell number will become inactive after 31st December, you will be able to call customer services and that's about it!

Once you have finally RICA'ed your SIM it will become active again. But do keep in mind most places will be closed on 1st January, the 2nd of January is a Sunday and most outlets will also be shut and so at best you might get your phone working again by Monday 3rd January.

I just wonder how long the queues will be on the 3rd of January 2011? I ask all my customers if they have RICA'ed their SIM cards and a few still say "we have 18 months to do that" or "I'm on contract so it doesn't apply to me" - I just hope there is some more ovbious advertising soon!

Watching the NEWS and seeing people queing to buy world cup tickets remind me of one thing.RICA.Imagine people queing in malls in large numbers to Rica their phone numbers. And we all know how rude sales consultants of cellphone stores can be.

If your phone number is not RICA by year end.On the 1 Jan 2011 your line will be suspended. Most cellphone stores will only reopen on the 3rd Jan because the 1st will fall on Saturday and wait in Ques. The RICA system might crash due to overloading.

SO RICA NOW to avoid long ques and problems.

The best part is ITs Free

@oc, I did the whole RICA thing for my contract sims last month but v4me says the following
You are currently not registered with RICA
is that a glitch in the RICA matrix or did I completely waste my time (30 minutes) at Vodaworld Customer Service center?

PM me your cell number and I will have a look for you. Is it individual or company?
