Phuthuma Nhleko is the Group Chief Executive for MTN Group Limited. He holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from Ohio State University and an MBA in finance from Atlanta University, and is also Chairman of Worldwide African Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd (WAIH).

As one of the founding members of WAIH, an investment holding company with interests in the petroleum, telecommunications and IT industries, he helped build the company to a book value of investments of approximately R3,5-billion. He was formerly a senior member of the Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank corporate finance team, and also practised as a civil engineer and project manager for the Urban Foundation.

The Chairman and Board of Directors of MTN Group Limited said on Thursday 31 March that following Phuthuma Nhleko’s stepping down as Group President and CEO, he has resigned from all boards of the cellular network company.
