What colour are you thinking of?

Prices are dependant on colour iirc.

How old is your car? What model is it?

Is the existing paint in terrible condition? I would really try to avoid this... Is the car you have available in the colour you want? Rather sell and buy a new car?

To get a decent job done, it will cost around R20k+++. You have to strip everything to be able to spray... doors, roof lining, dash, engine compartment... They also have to prepare all the surfaces properly - a huge job.

These guys that say they'll do it for like R5k or R10k don't strip everything, and normally only respray with the same colour, so that they don;t really have to respray everything, and they generally do a *** job.

    This is very true.

My dad just brought an old jeep for our holiday house and had it resprayed etc but lucky he does business with the guy that did it so he basically got it at cost. But i can say that a respray makes the car look fricken awsome!! Although for most people to do it the proper way it is pretty expensive.

I believe that there are also a few legal issues involved with changing the colour of a car - you will probably need a police clearance in order to get the colour changed on the registration certificate.

Instead of respray - why not just wrap your car in the colour you want???

Wraps are made of strong military grade material and are done profesionaly - full sized car will cost 10k and will take 2 days. Wraps also protect better than paint, no stone chips etc as the material is strong...it can be easily removed and it will last for 5-7 years!!!

You have probably just damaged the top clear coat....

I'd first suggest seeing if someone can fix it by "detailing" the car.

Yeah if you've scratched it try polishing, doubt a sponge could have damaged it more than that. Otherwise you might need to wet sand it. If that fails then yes you have to respray. I'm sure the "stickers" will be easier but not that much cheaper... Mayber 7-10k for that car.

10-15 cans of spray paint might do the job...

I had, courtesy of a bumper bashing (that I did, for which I paid), the opportunity to see the work done by Avant Garde Autobody to a decidedly new metallic grey Merc C-series: the owner seemed quite happy with the work they did, I was happy with what they did to my car too. They're in Kya-Sands, numbers are 011 708-7004/5, Kevin Bema is the manager - nice guy too. Oh, and I found them to be plenty reasonable on price.

Maybe he used one of those sponges with the green scotchbright scourer on the one side

Hell even if he'd done that he would only have damaged the clear coat..

It took my gardener and a piece of sandpaper to REALLY destroy the paint on my one car when he was trying to remove a tar mark
