Default feds go crazy with biggest busts since drink or die

i had to post about this here, because its got my head spinning, read this thread
    http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthre...773#post237773

the thing is it takes the feds months to get torrent sites bust, but real scene topsites and groups take years to infiltrate, thats why all the groups bust were old school groups, but now you have a situation where groups split and carry on, or the sources the old busted groups have go to the next level of groups down who eventually grow to take thier place, so basically all this is is give the feds publicity but doesnt stop piracy at all.

also with law reforms in both canada and the netherlands due to take place, piracy is seen as a victimless crime much akin to prohibition and authorities are seeing it as a waste of time in alot of countries, but not the US.

do any sceners or people who know about this stuff have comments?

p2p is like alcohol in the twenties in the US. Its unlawfull, but at this time even non-drinkers were drinking....*lol*

Busts are over-rated. New groups will just take their place. There's no stopping pirating, I don't know why they even try. Even if they bust a hundred big groups tomorrow there's still thousands of smaller ones operating, waiting to fill their shoes.

imo, these groups should stop putting themselves out there... release the *whatever* without any l33t nfo's and crap. the feds can then put a name to the "group" and then start from there.

the biggest threat to them would be the unknown, if they don't know where to start they would be behind, by the time they realise who it is the "group" has already been operating for several years

tmoose, newsgroups can't replace the topsite system because all the stuff on news groups originates on topsites, newsgroups are replacing stuff like bittorrent for the average user, but you're right about smaller groups taking thier place

noone, unfortunatley alot of the standards and rules are from the 80's like the 8.3 naming system and nfo files, you have to obey them to be part of the scene or you get scene banned so the groups have no choice

why do they use .nfo files?
cant they use some sort of metafile?

I don't think I mentioned newsgroups anywhere. What I meant was that new groups will replace the ones that get busted. A lot of people rip stuff themselves and share it on whatever P2P program they use as well, what I tried to say was that the releases will never stop coming. As the big "topsites" fall, the smaller ones will step in and become big.

EDIT: I think I see what happened, you misread "new groups" as "news groups"
