Cape Town - Another 164 000 tickets for the soccer World Cup will go on sale on Friday, FIFA announced on Wednesday.

Speaking at the ceremonial handover of Cape Town Stadium, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke said the tickets were spread across all 64 games.

He said this was the final tranche of tickets originally reserved for FIFA, that were being put back into the system.
"It becomes available on Friday morning, all the tickets... and then it's over."

A FIFA official said sales of these tickets would bring the total sold to 98% of the 2.88 million originally available.
I'm hoping to pick up a couple of tickets

That's flipping impressive for a tournament that was going to have empty stadiums...

I'll be trying again on Friday then, still 3 PE games that I don't have tickets to.

There are 3 714 678 seats available for the 64 games. So it means, if FIFA are to be believed, that only about 75% of the seats have been sold.

It also means that there are close on a million tickets unaccounted for.

I think that your total figure is too high. If it's true it would mean that our stadiums are bigger than the USA used in 94. I think that we have just under 3 million seats for the WC.

I'm pretty sure that the stadiums will be filled to near capacity. I'm not confident about much in SA, but I am confident about the World Cup. Even if 80% of the tickets are sold to locals, it'll still be an amazing thing to be a part of

I'll wait, there will be more tickets later at even cheaper prices.

There may be more tickets, but prices won't go down, that much I can promise.

Many of the numbers dont make sense. 280,000 expected overseas visitors, 2.8million sold tickets. The biggest sports event on earth and only 15% of the tickets sold are coming to SA. Maths is not my strong point.. so please someone crunch numbers for me.. I am confused

Probably because people buy tickets to more than 1 game
