Incompetence by the DA?

Consultants to probably monitor the mis-spending of the ANC, oh the irony.

That's like the ANC blaming everything on Apartheid. The DA has been in charge of the city for long enough and it's time they own up.
Some of that money could have erected decent toilets in Khayelitsha.

Nothing wrong with the consultants if they are adding value (I have more faith in trained, experienced professional consultants than I do in politicians.) but not going through the proper tender processes makes them hypocrites and opens them up to accusations of corruption and mismanagement and rightly so.

@ Carbon_Fibre - You're headline is completely inaccurate!!!!
Please read the article before you post!

Yes according to the article the DA screwed up by contracting parties without following the corrent tender process all the time - the money didn't dissappear into thin air (like the ANC municipalities).

Fair enough - agree

So that the youth league can destroy it (again)??? No no no no no - I hope the lesson was learnt - give anything for free and destroy they will... Rather sponsor them the bricks and cement - maybe they'll have more respect for something if they built it themselves...

Geez keep your pants on dude, if you read the article you can see that they are implying mismanagement which can be seen as imcompotence. Nobody is perfect, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander, it just amuses me that when it comes to political party that who's voters span a racial divide that this doesn't seem to be the case.

The important thing for me, is that in spite of the "mismanagement" the WC is still functioning better than any other province. It can only get better once they iron out this hiccup.

Lap it up, chaps. Lap it up.

I guess now is when you get to have your 5 mins to point and laugh. Ok. Feel better?

Right, back to business as usual.

no one said the DA are more competent than the ANC, things could go down hill for all we know ;)

By not putting contracts to tender the DA has left itself vulnerable to criticism re. jobs for pals etc. Only if you are in politics that you can afford to throw stones from behind glass doors.

While I think it should have been tendered properly, you'll find that a person in a government position is usually never as good as a person in the private sector, hence the need for good consultants. Spending the money on consultants for the good of the community is fine.

Yeah sorry got a bit carried away there... I agree 100% that they must be held accountable - in (SA) politics though the word "incompetence" carries a different meaning (to me anyway) than what this article is related to...

Actually we are not amused but we are only demanding good governance across the political spectrum...afterall this is the taxpayer's money, right?

Through nepotism the City Council has lost thousands of skilled planners, engineers and the like.
No wonder so much work has to be outsourced nowadays and a lot probably ends up with these same people that were shown the door who now earn more from a consultative position. Oh the irony indeed.

One contractor was paid about R20m to advise the municipality on the Integrated Rapid Transit (IRT) system and ended up costing it an extra R80m in unforeseen expenses after saying erroneously that the city wasn't liable for VAT
One of the supposedly superior consultants made a costly blunder, neh?
