Default VOIP software - PC to landline / cellular... not SKYPE OUT

We've been using Skype for 'free' voice/video calls between PCs/laptops as well as for 'cheap/er' calls to landlines or cellulas.
Now I understand from our h/o guys in france that Skype is not allowed, coz its got some moerse security issues, must use MSN Messenger for VOIP.
But I cannot see option to make landline/cell calls on messenger...
What is alternative software to Skype out calling, that can be installed on laptop/pc and used on 'any' internet connection?

Skype's protocol has, as far as I know, resisted all attempts to crack it. Its probably the most secure VOIP protocol. If the possibility to defeat it exists, it isnt in the hands of the public.

I suppose the program itself might be vulnerable. Just make sure you dont allow messages from people you dont know.

I dont know of any other program that can make calls to landline. Tell HO to STFU.

What about one of the Betamax products such as www.voipstunt.com, www.12voip.com, www.voipraider.com? I think that you might also be able to pay for the service locally (excluding Voipraider) ...

let me check with them... I see VoipBuster also seems to have 'cheap'ish PC to landline call rates ( € 0.03 p/min)

You can look at www.backsla.sh/betamax to compare the rates for all of the different Betamax services. If you are planning to use your own SIP device the rates may be different from those for the softphone. The number of free days also varies between 90 to 120 days which might also be a consideration.

Betamax works very well. Because of not being tethered to a pc, it beats Skype hands down.

I don't think you can call a landline from MSN. Alternative to Skype you say? There are like dozens but with different rates and features. In the US, we use Onesuite which can be use with or with out a PC. The rate to France is 2c per minute.

Your H/O guys are full of sht.

MSN has far more security issues. Hell their IM traffic isn't even encrypted (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...ients#Features).

Skype has pretty solid encryption. Its pretty much uncrackable...unless of course Skype Corp co-operates. (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10...ance_in_china/)

If your H/O guys are using VoIP you could get a Virtual South African number pointed to them, then when you call them you dial a South African number and it rings in France. pretty cool stuff from www.wanatel.co.za
