Extracting mkv files help

I have no clue what program I need to extract mkv files and winrar does not work with them.

What are you on about? mkv is a container format for video, just like avi.

extract mkv? are you sure it's not a rar file which has mkv in it? try download 7-zip that's brilliant.

Hi. .mkv format is a file format like .avi, .mpeg etc. Another format you might come across is .rmvb. Anyways you can convert .mkv to .avi or other formats is "any video converter". A good idea is also to install the divx codec aswell. Heres the website: www.divx.com.

For some reason I could never hear people talk but could hear all other sound effects in .mkv files in vlc so I switched to KMPlayer.

Seriously, your the bigger idiot! There are many more than just .rar or .zip that will commonly be found. What about: .tar; .gz; .bz2; .p7; .lzma; .lz; .xz ?
