Thread: port forwarding and router config

Default port forwarding and router config

    ok guys,need some help here.
I understand that telkom adsl only gives us shaped connections, but does this really mean that p2p stuff should download at a pidlly 10k/s?(thats the max, averaging about 2k/s)
    come on, I'm sure there's a solution.
I looked around and one of the sites I found recommended changing the port range through your browser (This is done by running ipconfig for all info and using the default gateway as the web address). the problem is when you access the site there's a password prompt & of course i dont have the password.
My understanding of this is that it isnt an illegal operation and i was wandering if anyone as of yet has contacted these guys to obtain the required info (this is also apparently possible).
if you have could you please post it in this thread,
i believe its not a unique id and password so its no major security problem if you do
    many thanks

Not sure if you're posing this as an ADSL question, but be better to ask this question with the ADSL forums. My P2P downloads peak at about 14KBytes/sec on a bundled ISDN connection, which by my calculations is about as good as it gets for ISDN - no shaping, no need to run through a proxy.

my mistake, was meant for adsl forums.
but thats pretty fast for isdn.My shaped adsl isnt coming close to that just now.I went to the router config and managed to forward the ports as suggested by overseas sites(after finally obtaining the password) and noticed a very small jump to about 9kb/s (which could just be due to an increase in sources for that partilcular file anyway) which is still pretty useless.
thanks anyway and will continue the search in the correct forum
    cheers
