Quite remarkable but don't think they too much of a choice. Still it is a step forward for MTN.

MTNNS is a joke. The JSE never went down till they switched to them, now this is the 3rd incident.

We have a few servers at these jokers and I hate it when I'm on support and things go wrong.

We've had incidents where they just killed power to racks without notice, routers going down, DNS servers not being updated and then not working, etc ...
Microsoft told me they were my solution, so I told them I wanted my problem back.

Because MTNNS is suppose to have a redundant network, but in reality its not.

Also just checked our support email and see that there where over 13 incidents at our hosting service since the 23rd.

That is the biggest mistake you could make.

Over the last two years MTN has become an absolutely awful company to be a customer with. I spent months trying to get billing issues sorted out because their call cnetre refused to acknowledge that they were having issues. Nine months later they finally turned around and admitted to having "minor issues". Then there was the fraudulent, rigged SMS birthday 'competition'.

They have also had a large number of high profile outages over the last 12 months.

    Stay away from them.

Large companies are also moving away from them. For example Simba/Pepsico/Lays have had enough of their rubbish and are moving all their cell contracts to Vodacom.
    So it goes.

“The combined routes have produced an effective 100% uptime as at no point have both destinations been down simultaneously, even with the recent failure of the SEACOM cable system. MTN Business has achieved this through diversity of routes between SAT3 and SEACOM capacity with enough headroom to handle the failures impacting other networks,”

So MTN did not have 100% uptime, like some of the other ISP's and they are NOT so perfect!

What is weird, is things dont usually "just" stop working, some guy that is most likely not fully qualified, made a change, and this affected the JSE. They most likely had to get a fully qualified guy to go and fix the mistake, and spent 6 hours finding which setting had been changed, and then 2 minutes changing the setting back.

They need some software like Tripwire "Tripwire is industry-recognized for its enterprise-level configuration control software. Tripwire's leading product, Tripwire Enterprise, is the first to combine configuration assessment with configuration change auditing in a single solution. Tripwire Enterprise helps IT ensure the organization achieves and maintains configurations in an operationally optimized, compliant and secure state-and helps them prove it."

What this does, is, when a "n00b" makes a change on a server, it gets audited, and the setting can get changed back. It gives exact details about how to rectify these changes that were made, and the infrastructure can be working in minutes again, and not hours.

I think MTN is just misunderstood, they don't have redundancy, THEY are redundant . Stuff stop working wherever they are.
