Thread: EASSy commercial service here in August

  1. #1

    Default EASSy commercial service here in August

    EASSy brought into commercial service during August 2010

    Neotel will hosts the EASSy Management Committee in Johannesburg, and they expect the cable to be brought into commercial service this month

    When the ISPs launch their commercial product offerings after the service has launched commercially... probably September/October some time (that's how it was with Seacom).

    Uncapped round 2. But this time with more capacity and redundancy. IS clients will finally start to see a difference, too little too late though...............

    Yeah I see that too now. I really hope that Vodacom comes up with some good data deals soon.

    Good news but what plans do the South african investors have for this cable and what BW they have bought

    Some info on this cable
    System length: 10,000 km
    Landings: 9
    Transmission: SDH
    Technology: Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Direct Optical Amplification
    Topology: 2 fibre pair system configured as a collapsed ring
    Proposed ultimate capacity per fibre pair:

    * 68 wavelengths per pair at 10Gbps
    * Total capacity of 1.4Tbps

    Latency (round-trip):

    * Mtunzini-London (150ms)
    * Mtunzini-Marseille (140ms)
    * Mtunzini-Port Sudan (92ms)
    * Mtunzini-Mombasa (44ms)

    System design life: 25 years
    Supplier: Alcatel-Lucent - Thankfully not the Chinese

    South African investors in EASSY include Telkom/Vodacom ($18.9 million) , MTN ($40.3 million), and Neotel (~$11 million).
