Default BlackBerry 6 and Torch enough to keep RIM in the game?

    Knives out for BlackBerry

This week looks like a Charles Dickens novel for BlackBerry. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

I plan on getting a blackberry when my contract is up for renewal.Their BIS and IM messenger service is the major draw card for me.

If they're doing so badly then why are they now the world's no 4 manufacturer of cellphones (all phones not just smartphones) having overtaken Sony Ericsson and motorola?
In SA anyway I can only see Blackberry getting stronger thanks to the unlimited data plan the only way they can lose out is if they cap it.

Interesting to see what RIM decides to do. Its bitter sweet in many ways. I'm always waiting to see where RIM will be in 5 years. I think they are at a point in the business, where its make or break and personally I'd like to seem the make it.

Unlimited data plan and IM, with easy e-mail integration is a winner for me as a business person. I've stated this before, Blackberry have got one thing right and that is the fact that its not about the hardware but the service/user experience. I use blackberry simply for BIS ....

Blackberry Enterprise Servers, allow business people to be connected and mobile. Empowering workforces that are on the road.

People need to understand that target markets and what the appeal is for each device.

Not one fact in the entire article..... Must be an opinion page. In my opinion blackberry is the best communication device available. Lloads of people I know are moving away from their iphone 3G/s's in favor of Blackberries.

I am moving from prepaid (been on it 6 years now) to contract. The Blackberry makes a whole heap of sense with BIS and IM. My wife is on it so I can save in that regard.

But now with the imminent (I sincerely hope it's imminent) release of Torch, I might have to wait slightly longer. Great looking phone with touch and slide out. All good for me. If it comes soon.

    Cool not applicable in SA

cost is a major factor in SA - we get seriously diddle up the behind by our lovely service providers.(without Vaseline mind you). My chommie in the UK pays 30quid for all you can eat data, seriously large number of calls etc.

The facilities the blackberry offers in addition to the cost savings are very hard to ignore here. Also the blackberry is just intuitively designed for what it meant to do - communication. Unfortunately that can't be explained to a non-blackberry user. You gotta use it to appreciate it.

However I can see myself fiddling with other phones if the cost factor wasn't so atrocious, so I can see why Blackberry can have serious competition overseas. I'm hearing really good things about Android.
