Exclamation Volkswagen Polo Playa 1.4 (2001)

Hi, wonder if someone could offer some assistance or advice with regards to the following car. Anyone had any experiences with them, please give pros/cons etc.

Thinking of purchasing this. (Though I've never owned a VW but I have always quite liked the Polo.)

    Volkswagen Polo Playa 1.4 (2001)
    R 45 000
    Engine: 4 cylinders, 1423cc, 62kW
    Transmission: Manual
    Type: Hatch
    Colour: Weat Bei
    Interior: Cloth
    Mileage: 112 700km
Personally I think it's quite reasonable. Will go have a look at the car at the dealer on Monday.
    Your input is appreciated.

Looks very reasonable, just take a good look at the car as buying used can be a gamble, sometimes you get a gem and others rubbish.

That mileage is nice and low, should be great prvided it's been regularly serviced and you can get the service records.

All that being said I had a 2001 Playa 1.4 and it was diabolically heavy on fuel...eventually converted it to a 2.0 litre at SAC and the consumption actually improved. I sold it to a mate who still has it - has done 170 000 on the 2 litre engine, and loves the car to bits. The only work he's had to do on it is change brake pads, tyres and shocks.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

Well I have a company car which I use during the week (and weekends), so if/when I get a personal vehicle it will mostly be used on weekends, and driving long distances. So I'm not exactly looking for something that economical on fuel (though it's always a good idea). It will be living in the garage mostly, and probably do around 200km's a month. Need something that's gonna last me as well and family orientated.

Do you prefer a hatch? I think a Classic would be a better bet in this case - much more boot space. The Polos also have quite short gears, so not the best car to do long distance driving with. If you can live with that, though, I can't think of any reason not to get the car in your OP.

    Short gearing? Since when?

They do 3000 rpm @ 100 km/h which is the same as any other VW.

120km/h you are cruising at about 3300 rpm...nothing wrong with that, and having done most of my Playa mileage on long trips, they are just fine.

went to the dealer today and the car wasn't there. "apparently" went for COR or some BS. They said they would call me when it got back, still waiting.....

*South Coast time i guess* (much like Bill Gates time)
