where i live the 8ta signal is alot better than the mtn.

    Hi all,

Is anyone else struggling with VERY erratic speeds on 8Ta in Pretoria? I'm in the East (Garsfontein) and since Friday last week it has been so erratic it's almost impossible to make a Skype call. It's up & down, at times upload speed is faster than download

    Some tests done today:

    13:34 http://speedtest.net/result/2184654843.png
    12:57 http://speedtest.net/result/2184609307.png
    12:45 http://speedtest.net/result/2184593196.png
    12:42 http://speedtest.net/result/2184589777.png

And this is with a Poynting antenna! (which I resorted to after the previous speed problem took so long to resolve)

I'm quite frustrated because it is so unstable, and I need a fast, stable connection. When I started on the contract (back in Feb i think) the signal was brilliantly fast and consistent. But since then it has got slower with an improvement only after installing the antenna.

    Hey 8ta,

I have emailed you, I have received a case number, I have had two technicians come to my home and I am now beginning to feel agitated. I am unable to stay connected for more than an hour, I need to keep on reconnecting. And this is a speedtest result:

    http://www.speedtest.net/result/2195595226.png

    My reference number is: 1717438

I don't mind the fact that my internet speed is pathetic, obviously I would prefer it to be faster, but I've learned not to wish for the impossible. However I cannot cope with an inconsistent connection. I would really appreciate some kind of a solution.

That's a nice result there. I am going to cancel my 8ta account in the next few weeks, moving over to iburst.

I have a funny feeling I'm being slowly throttled to death, since my download speed is going doing week by week, yet my upload speed is remaining constant...

These tests were done in order from top to bottom.

    Local 1:
    International 1 (North America):

    Local 2:
    International 2 (Australia):

Local 3: - Back to partially sane DL speeds, but my UL speed is still double (AkA: Throttle)
    International 3 (Russia):

    And the kicker? :P

    I'm sync'd at 28.8MB (8ta branded E367)

    Doing a: ping 165.165.38.147 -l 1 -t

Gives me a constant ping between 30ms and 50ms (Except during a speedtest when it expectedly jumps to the 200's or so), so my line is fine - I'm just being throttled to death :/

I'd normally just blame my terrible signal, but that wouldn't account for the fact that my upload speed is always between 2x -> 5x higher than my download speed, and the ping results are fine...

For reference, when I got the modem, I could happily stream 1080p (Granted, I didn't MEAN to, but it could stream just fine ;P) - I'm now getting jitter-buffering on 240p vids...

    - Edit -

Woo - All time weirdest result!

My upload speed is 8 times higher than my download speed ;D

    - Edit 2 -

Local 4 (Oct 7): Down: 0.53, Up: 1.14, Ping: 64ms (I've hit the max image limit on this post)

    For pricing - Yes.

I take it you havn't been to the speed-test results in the CellC forums?

    - Unrelated Edit -

I did a speed test using the same modem 2 minutes apart - Modem stayed in the same position - I simply swopped SIM's, and reconnected.

    8ta:

    CellC:

I dare someone to tell me that 8ta's not throttling me
