Default Handy Must Know Linux Applications

    Hey Gents,

I am a newly converted Linux user & I am enjoying Mint so far. I thought it would be a good idea to post a thread like this for me & other future noobs.

Either you can post the Linux app name & then post what it does:

    Planet PDF: PDF Reader

or you could post the Linux app name & the Windows app that has similar functionality:

    Openoffice: MS Office

Looking forward to reading some of the responses.

Good idea D3x. I am also a newly converted Linux user... on SLES 11 to be exact. Impressed so far. There does not seem to be a lot of "idiot friendly" help available on the web though. I need all the help I can get.

This page might be helpful: http://www.linuxalt.com/. Googling for "linux <appname> alternative" also usually gives a good result or two, if you're looking for a Linux replacement/equivalent of a particular Windows app.
