Nope, I don't like it either, at least not for Gnome.

One that shouldn't be left out is Gnome-Do.

Arguably the best dock / launcher on Linux.

amarok suffers from the general kde problems. you need to have the resources. other than that it is a fine piece of software. i find myself switching between rhythmbox and aamarok as i try to remember why i stopped using the other one.

New one that I'm playing with:

Talika panel applet, windows 7 style taskbar applet for running applications. Very useful.

Just looked at a screen shot on Wiki. Seems pretty interesting. Can you do budgets & all other sorts on it as well?

You are the product of 4 billion years of evolution. Start acting like it.

Hmm, not sure, awm just doesn't do it for me (although it's been a while since I tried it), so I use cairo instead. Problem with cairo is that it's version of system tray/notification area, is pretty rubbish, so I use this as a substitute.

It's very similar to the Windows 7 application notifier, and I was always impressed by that one.

Who needs more than grep and vim?

    - Audacious is the best music player I've come across, though that might just be personal preference as I love its Winamp emulation / windowshade mode
    - Downloader for X is a great file download manager
    - GNOME commander if you need a file manager a little more comprehensive than Nautilus
