Thread: Err wtf is this - Email from Afrihost?

Question Err wtf is this - Email from Afrihost?

    Dear xxxx

We've made some changes to your uncapped account which we believe will improve the overall performance and speed of your ADSL connection with us.

Please read this email carefully to see what you need to do to take advantage of these changes now.

Why have we made this change to your account?

In July we changed the way we manage our Uncapped clients - While we knew this way of managing our bandwidth would give most of our clients a better overall experience we also knew it could ossibly
affect the performance of our uncapped clients.

(In case you missed it I've included a copy of the email I sent through in mid June explaining all this
    in detail)

Whenever our capacity is stretched our Bandwidth Manager system automatically adjusts the speeds
of uncapped clients and thus your overall performance has been slower than we would like over the last while.

    So what's the good news?

Based on your download and usage patterns we believe that an Uncapped ADSL account on the Internet Solutions (IS) Uncapped Realm will be better suited for you.

We have thus created you an Afrihost-IS Uncapped ADSL account that you can start enjoying right away.

These uncapped accounts are the exact same packages currently being resold in the marketplace by all IS resellers.

These accounts will be managed by IS and make use of availalibilty across their network.

Another benefit of these accounts is that you can have 2 concurrent connections using your uncapped account at the same time.

(Note though that if 2 locations are connected using the same username at the same time then your speed is simply halved for the duration of the simultaneous connections)

I'm confident that this solutions will be more suitable for your usage and downloading needs.

When can you start using your new Uncapped account?

Your new Afrihost-IS uncapped account has been created already and is ready for you to use right now.

Simply make the changes outlined below and you can start using it right away.

What's your new Username? What do you need to do?

The only thing you need to change is your Afrihost ADSL username and restart your router.

Your password is unchanged and you do not need to make any changes to it

    Your new username is xxxxxxx

So simply add "is." after the @ sign in your current username in your router settings and you are done.

As soon as you've saved these details and restarted your router you will be logged onto your new uncapped account.

If you need any help doing this please reply and I'll get one of our team to phone you ASAP

When do you need to make this change by?

Your old uncapped username will keep working till Friday morning this week - after this
only your new username will remain active.

So please be sure to change your username from xxxxxx to xxxxxxxxxx as soon as possible to avoid any break in your connectivity.

Why is this new account better for you?

The way our Bandwidth Manager sytem works means that your account will automatically be managed whenever there is pressure on our capacity and as such
will generally be slower than our other clients.

While the IS reseller account is also shaped during office
hours is generally opened up more after hours.
    wtf?

And based on your downloading and usage history this will probably suit you better than the way we
will manage your account on our network going into the future.

Added to this your new uncapped account allows for 2 simultaneous connections from different locations.

Will this cost you anything extra?

No - Everything else stays exactly the same.

You still deal with us in exactly the same way that you have in the past.

There's no change to your billing, support or client zone login details.

The only thing that changes is your username and hopefully your performance!

Will this new uncapped account be managed or shaped?

In general, the shaping of your new uncapped account will be more lenient than it has been - However, if you are one of the heavier users and download large amounts of data your account will be managed and shaped by IS.

Please note that if speed is your most important criteria and you download plenty of data then we recommend that you consider one of our Capped ADSL options instead.

Please let me know if you need any help with changing your username and I'll make sure we contact you to help you out ASAP.

Alternately please feel free to give us a call on 011 612 7200 if you need any help.

Thanks and as always if you need anything please let me know!

    Warm regards

    Gian

I know a few people that requested to have theirs moved over and are very happy with it.

    I also got one.

I did reply but I very much doubt that I will get a response. I would have been nice if we had the new FUP in the mail. Ill do the change and hope for the best. It cant get much worse.

I still dont like the fact that the ISP forces changes onto us (or am I being Cynical?)

Oh, I had my account moved as well, and I am really, really happy about it ...

My account did move a bit further though from my point of view it wasn't where to it was where from ...

I moved as far away as possible from AfriHOST ...

So basically you will be shaped to hell by IS if you get into the Top 20 and 50% users range.
Trust me - its no fun. IS is ruining it for everyone.
Now only a few ISP's remain that have their own IPC networks.
    B.T.W GOOD LUCK

    Dear User,

Since you have purchased an Uncapped Account from us, we believe that you are downloading too much and we aren't making money off you.

We have thus moved you to the IS account so we can obliterate transparency and squeeze every penny from you

What does this mean for you?

Instead of us violently raping you in the ass if you so much as look at a youtube video, we have an automated machine to do the raping for us.

In this way, you will NEVER know if you download too much, instead you will just experience a crappy connection shaped to hell on ice skates.

We understand that you pay for a 4Mbps connection, but quite frankly we don't care. You have no choice in the matter so your account will be terminated on Friday.

............Seriously dude, within the first 3 seconds of reading this email, you haven't canceled your account yet with them, have you?

I got the email too. So far I've changed the login details and will see how it goes. I was being throttled to 50kB/s for the last week and it was starting to get a little old.

Come again, the question is why this account is better for you. The answer: it will 'generally be slower than our other clients'. Huh??

We've made some changes to your uncapped account which we believe will improve the overall performance and speed of your ADSL connection with us.
So, to improve the overall performance and speed of my adsl connection with Afrihost, they are going to s.l.o.w...i.t....d...o.....w..........n???? What logic!

Afrihost has gone from hero to less than zero with this move.

They just force u over by making you hit a landing page. I was moved to @dslmweb but the very nice mweb rep on the forum sorted me out.

I had the opposite problem. The very nice mweb rep here told me I was fine on the @dslmweb.co.za domain, but when I phoned thier tech support to find out why my unshaped account was definitely being shaped they told me unshaped customers are supposed to be using the @mweb.co.za domain.
Why bother with hatred when indifference will do?

I got that email somewhere in beginning September

It went nicely but I hit 40GB download and now my speed is uber poor again, so feels like nothing has changed.
I think it`s just a move from AH to try distance themselves for direct blame.

    I've always been on @dslmweb.co.za.

do you guys find the timing of this mail suspect? Maybe they should send email like these before the 25th of the month so that they give their users the option to cancel their subscription for the following month.
