Thread: 4G network claims from Cell C - The battle rages on

4G network claims from Cell C - The battle rages on

Cell C continues to punt its 4G and 4Gs network, but this claim is starting to cause more problems than only the mockery from tech savvy observers

some guy from marketing in our company sent an email to everyone, wherein he states that cellc has launched a world class 4G network. i find it odd that they keep insisting that this is not misleading, they're doing everything else right

Regardless, I'm still interested in testing their "close to 4G as is available now" as soon as it available in Cape Town. After being on MTN's 3G service, surely this has to be better right? True 4G is merely a matter of time I think (even for these here parts) lol

"Reddick added that the US operators T-Mobile and Sprint have also used the term 4G in their marketing campaigns, and that the US’s advertising regulations are probably stricter than those of South Africa."
This is a rather reprehensible statement as the US's advertising regulations are incredibly lax compared to ours. Sprint's 4G offering is a 10mbps wimax offering which, although is capable of much more, is even slower than HSPA.

The fact that they're calling it 4G does not bother me as much as all the people who don't know better
speaking about 4G and they want their 3G upgraded.

ok it does bother me, they shouldn't be misleading the public

4G is wrong, 4Gs is (un)fair game, but still game.

VC and MTN trying to push Cell c out by discrediting them, because if Cell c succeeds they have to drop their prices to keep their customer base.

Am I the only one tired of reading the same story day after day? Isn't there something new to report? Who cares what they call it? If they call it 4G or 3.75G or whatever, they still advertise the speeds they claim so who cares?

Looks like Cell © is f_ _king up plenty recently. This and their new branding they spent a fortune on before getting legal opinion on their new trade mark. Makes you wonder who they have running the show there. Nevermind expensive lawyers.... If they had bothered to ask someone's son or daughter who was half way through first year in Law of Trade Marks 101, they would have been told that the trade mark would not be registrable before shelling out over a hundred million in marketing. To me it looks like none of their internal lawyers know ANYTHING about trade marks. Either that, of the marketing department kept the rebrand super secret and wanted to surprise even the internal staff... NEVER keep secrets from your legal advisers... we're not interested in the marketing departments need to create excitement, surprises and cr4p like that...

Now the 4G claims and then changing their tune once confronted, only tells you they either knew their claim was unfounded and decided to wait for someone to take issue, OR they didnt know that their claims would be a problem. Can't decide which of these two scenarios is worse.

I for one will be using CellC's kennyG network

we've been saying it for years, we don't care about speeds if it still costs a fortune.

I for one think their 4G Logo is a good thing, for me personally. It will rake it more idiots onto their network and allow it to grow faster, thereby causing more competition too, and therefore pressuring vodacom and mtn to lower their prices too.

Go on CellC, rake them all in - steal as many users as you can!!!!!

OK, so they've established a 3.75G network. Seeing that we get ripped of in round numbers/Gb 3.75 rounded down to 0 decimals is 4.

FFS, call it whatever, just get it rolled out because the PRICE is GOOD, I know of many people will pay those rates for 3G, never mind 4G or 10G or whatever.
