    Default Sharing Neotel Internet Connection

    Pls, I need help. I have set up a home network and have done the following:

    Configured the host computer ito IP and DNS numbers with gateway blank.
    Configured the other computer ito IP, DNS and with gateway the host computer's IP.
    Shared the internet connection on the host computer.
    The computers were previously connected bmo a router, currently bmo a cross-over Lan cable.

    It shows both are connected and on the other computer it states under network connections - NEOCONNECT on the host computer.

    However, when opening IE or Google Chrome, it does not pick up the connection - thus no internet!. I do not know what else I must do. Pls help.

    1. What OS's are the two computers, you may experience issues eg. XP - > Win7 via cross-over cable == issues & workarounds. Win7 -> Win7 & XP -> XP via cross-over no problem.

    2. From what you have described you have setup ICS on the host PC and it has an IP of 192.168.0.1 ? Do an "ipconfig /all" on the Host PC to make sure you are using the correct ICS IP.

    3. Also from what you describe the other PC does pickup the Shared Internet Connection from the Host PC under Network Connections, check to make sure the other PC has an IP of 192.168.0.2-100, subnet mask - 255.255.255.0, gateway - 192.168.0.1, what DNS are you using ? maybe try using primary: 8.8.8.8 secondary: 8.8.4.4 or openDNS primary: 208.67.222.222 secondary: 208.67.220.220

    Good luck and hope you come right

    Everything you have said, I have tried/is setup like that. Even the google DNS 8.8.8.8 etc.

    Is there anything else I can do? Your advice is much appreciated!

    Could be a number of things. Start with trying another cable and working from there, test the NIC, maybe try another NIC and look for changes. Sometimes a small thing such as reversing the cable around can sort you out.

    Share some clear information on your setup and maybe someone can help.

    I changed the 2 computer's functions - made the other the host etc - and it worked!

    Just check, I got this working on my Desktop, Xbox 360 and Patriot Box Office on Wired Lan through netgear router. Laptop and Iphone on Wireless through Router.
    Desktop is Windows 7 machine and it uses 192.168.137.1 as its IP. They changed it in Win7 DHCP ICS. That might have been the reason it worked the other way.
