Why does the article image show R50/Gig?
VPS locally hosted, Windows or Linux - R149pm!
    Uncapped 10Mbps ADSL - R549pm!

“With customers paying as little as R83 for 2GB per month for unparalleled high-speed internet access, Cell C’s new network is the most advanced on the African continent,” Cell C said in a press statement.
No, it's ~R83 PER GB for 2GB per month (paid as a lump sum upfront).

Because that's what it equates to if you take the "5GB per month for a year for R3k once-off upfront" package.

That's how much it works out for their top package = R3000.00 for 60GB+modem = R50/GB

    Nope, R999/12 = R83.25 for 2GB per month, or R41.63 PER GB.

Assuming that you already have a modem, such as a K3565.

    In my case my notebook's built-in 3G supports UMTS 900, so I don't need a modem.

You should go and have a look at the coverage map of Dbn & Pmb. The coverage is HUGE. There is more coverage there than in Cape Town.

Is there a coverage map at all?

EDIT: can someone post the coverage map on MYBB
I'm not a part of your system!

I must say I really like that way Cell C is doing their roll-out. They are pretty transparent - and the "We know it is new that is why we are going slow but steady" really scores a lot of points with me.

When will they start with cheaper data bundles to add on to a voice contract? I want cheap data for my Android smartphone dammit!
