Edit: hmm. I guess this could've gone under gaming.
Last time I used cheats was on PS1, either when I finished the game or just not into it or bored of it.

Medium/Normal/Regular is the baseline difficulty to enjoy a game, not too easy, not too hard. Too easy especially can take immersion away from a game and in some cases, completely kill the way the game is supposed to be played. A good example of this is the Hitman games. The higher the difficulty, the more you gonna have to become "Hitman" and think more tactically. Easy can turn it into a shooter.

Thing is, in a lot of games today "medium" is the new "easy". In Dead Space for example I barely died and only got killed by enemies that deal one hit kills. I was always 10 times stronger than anything in the game. The horror turned into action for me.

If you play on hard the first time, it's more rewarding and the game lasts longer

If you really want a challenge though, Resident Evil 4/5 and the last few CoD games can be a bitch on the hardest difficulty.

Only use walkthrough's when I'm stuck on a particular part eg. Dark Souls

    Easy . . . Normal . . . Hard

Don't use cheats, a walkthrough now again but games are not that hard anymore like they used to be. Its more about entertainment now.

    Xbox, PS3
Always play on hardest. Except God of War 3, I was getting nowhere on Titan and my controller was suffering because of my frustration.

PC and PS3. I don't use cheats or mods. Too many games to focus onjust one. PC for multiplayer, PS3 for single player.

One exception. Can't wait for Tekken Tag2.

Usually I play the default level but recently with MGS Collection I start on easy as I had no experience with stealth games. I don't think I'll be able to finish them on European Extreme (the hardest difficulty).
    I've made a huge mistake.

Forgot to say I never play on easy as that's just boring. Usually play medium/normal.
