I think I know the answer is no already, but I thought i'd find out if there is a little trick that may be useful.

Every time I go to iol.co.za with my opera 10.62 browser, they redirect me to the mobile site (m.iol.co.za). This is very annoying, so I usually just mosey on over to news24 / sowetan / mg.co.za etc etc... rather than have to open the fox the whole time.

This looked like a challenge to get around though, so I thought i'd see if this was something that I could solve (for interest really).

Is there something I can do to fake the request string so that I don't appear to be using Opera? Or perhaps there might be other suggestions?

And no... they don't seem respond to the feedback section on their site. I've reported this twice in the last week with no response.

EDIT: nm, I found this http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=219165

"Right click on the page > "Edit Site Preferences" > Network > Select "Mask as Internet Explorer" from browser identification select box."

I had to go to a page, right click "Edit Site Preferences" then change the text in the site tab first to www.iol.co.za (it was defaulted to m.iol.co.za), then go to network tab and change to identify me as another browser.

Sorry for the useless post.

Not really a useless post. Might help someone else using Opera in future.

i noticed the arrivealive site redirecting me to the mobisite the other day on firefox.
annoying. i can spoof the ua. but why should i with a mainstream browser?
is this also happening for other ff 3.6 users?

Just my opinion, but the fact that you found a solution and posted it makes the post more useful than most...

thx peeps.

@murraybiscuit: Not happening for me with ff 3.6.10 or opera 10.63.

The Web Admin for my PepLink router has the following notice about Opera : "It appears you are accessing this Web Admin with an unsupported browser."..... in red (very annoying)

Thanks. Problem solved.

The trick I used was to just not visit iol... If they can't get something simple right how can I trust them with my news?? :p

Also happens on payfine. Used to happen on mtn.co.za. The problem is they test if the mobile stuff is supported and if so redirect, and opera supports it while other browsers don't.
