Exclamation MTN All Day Unlimited Internet: R11000 Bill @5GB

I have a bit of a problem and wondered if anyone of you guys could help me by telling me what I can do.

The other day I purched a "One day Unlimited Internet" bundle whict is charged @ R50. I downloaded 5GB of data, which as far as I can tell was well within any "FUPollicy" and recieved a bill of R11000, jip you read it correctly, R11k .

I did find that there is a fair use policy which will drop your speed to 128Kbps if you exceed 150MB before the 24hr timeline, although my speed didn't .

As far as I can tell it is not my fault they didn't throttel me, in any case, I didn't even know there was such a policy till today.

Any sugesstions or sould I go directly to the papers?

Do you have proof that the R50 bundle was loaded in the first place?

It's clear that somehow or the other your Unlimited Bundle was not activated - so you are being billed at OOB rates of R2 per MB.

MTN will disclaim any responsibility, they will say that you did something wrong, and that you have to pay.

If you don't pay they will blacklist you.

The newspapers get so much of this that they are not really interested, but you can always try.

PEOPLE, DON'T TRY THESE THINGS ON A CONTRACT - IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG YOU ARE SCREWED !!!!

I personally only use prepaid data nowadays - mainly Cell C at the moment.

Afaik, you buy the bundle, then dial another number *162*...# to activate the bundle. You then get an sms to say its been activated and you have 24hrs to back-up the interwebs. Hope you did all of this

    1024 MB x 5 = 5120 MB @ R2 = R10240 + 14%vat = R11673.60

so yeah sadly it can cost R11k...

OP, can you prove you loaded the bundle? A confirmation sms should do.

Edit: remember the R2/MB is ex-vat.

Now why would you think that ?

At R2 per MB (5 * 1024), and he may have been a bit over 5GB, and there you go. Standard OOB rates.

I'm back, yea it was like 5.5GB or something. But how was I supposed to know I had to "Activate" the dam thing. With vodacom it's activated once the transaction is processed!?

They did send me a sms saying that I had purchased it, so I don't know what the problem is. Another family member went to talk to them but they just blamed it on the amount, as if I "misused" the service!?

How much can 5 to 5.5GB realy cost them, Im prepared to pay @ double cellc tariffs even, but this is pathetic!?
