Default Poor guys wants an Android phone

okay I have wanted an Android phone for a wile now, and now I am finally earning some money, so I look at prices for the HTC Magic (first android phone if I am not mistaken) - cheapest i could find it was R3000! then I recall the HTC Tattoo is the lower range phone, its even more!!! are these prices right? I was expecting like R1500 for the Magic?
    anybody got it for cheaper?
how are the no name android phones? (made in china)
Sometimes I get this weird urge to argue with stupid people, lucky for me there are plenty around....

Nope. HTC Dream was the first

That price doesn't seem right for the Magic, but either way, I wouldn't suggest it. Maybe consider the Wildfire over the Magic or the Tattoo.

Remember that Android phones are smartphones, which is why they (generally) cost more than your usual feature-phones. If you do go for the Vodafone Android or for some no-name brand thing, don't expect any support for it from the manufacturer or much from the community - even the community draws the line at which phones are most popular and bigger manufacturers like HTC, Motorola and Samsung generally make the most popular phones.

Samsung i5500 & LG Optimus seem like a no brainer!

I suggest looking at MTNSP on a TopUp 100 contract. My fiancé has a Nokia X3 and I pay R89 per month for it, it's priced from R1.5 to 2K new. We receive R100 airtime and 25 smses on it.

Don't even waste your time with Vodacom, they will decline you for no valid reason, I've been through it in the past, you will waste your time.

Work out total cost over 24 month contract and you'll see it really is worth it.

Ciao (btw. I have a 5800XM on TopUp with MTN for R139 with same as above, still a great phone after all this time). Go with the Android you want though.

I am a bit pre disposed to vodocom, had great service from them for 6 years but I'm not looking for a contract, I don't have a stable income and I want to flash it as I please
    thanks anyway

We are willfully killing our Vodacom contract (after expiry date). MTN 3G performs like a 4mb DSL at my place and Voda like a sentech connection

Game had this phone on special last weekend for R999. Not bad for an entry level Android handset. But I heard that it's network locked, didn't confirm this though.

However, I would also suggest you look at the LG Optimus One . I think it sells for around R2500. Im using the LG GT 540, which came out before the Optimus One, and I am more than happy with the phone. I got it on a cheap contract, and for what it's costing me, it's well worth it.
