I thought I'd start this thread so we can discuss various aspects of the game like cars, tracks, maybe even track times.

What car was your first buy?

I bought the Mazda Eunos Roadster '89 NA (special package) first.

Then I bought the Honda Civic Type R '80 model. Handles quite well I must say.

from what I've heard and read, the game actually disappoints.... correct me if i'm wrong plz

check out the in-depth review on ign.com. dont think i'll be buying GT5.

I completed 2 stages of licences. When you complete licences, you get free cars and it opens up lots of other stuff as well.

I love it cos it made me into a kid again.

Played for about 5 hours last night although I hate doing the licences. So just did the b license and then went racing. Went to bed with a beeeg smile but sore eyes...

Does GT5 have a Dyno Tune facility like GT4? Where would one find that? I remember that you were able to see an estimate of your car's top speed and acceleration, etc in between tuning it. Did they leave that out?

They gave it an 8.5/10, which is a great rating. I swear people moan if games are not 9/10 or 10/10 :D

So just trying the game now and the very first car I've taken (my own car) is not the same as it is in real life ... No silver mirrors, R Design badge doesn't carry through to track, speedo colours are wrong, console colour is incorrect :/

Just assumed a little more detail in the cars - and makes one wonder about the accuracy of sounds etc that they claim.

Notice dirt doesn't carry through to the rear view mirror either? So when travelling on the dirt, nothing comes up?

Standard Alfas, Volvos and Fords with fire out the exhaust when changing gear?

My LCD got stolen! F•cken ****ers broke into my flat and cleaned us out while my wife and I were sleeping.

And now in stucked with a 54cm. It's so ***.

They stole an HDTV while two people were sleeping in a FLAT and never woke up during it. Pretty damn good skelms, gotta hand it to them.

Yeah we were asleep as well. And we on the 1st floor.

Anyways, GT is not the same anymore for me. The physics on the car is so much better than the forza. The way the car understeers and oversteers is awesome!

I suffered with IB10 (I think) licence. The one with the Ferrari 512bb and the Lamborghini's. Just one touch of another car and you disqualified. I must've tried about 50 times and finally got it right.

If Gran Turismo 5 was a good game...

...it wouldn't toss so many incongruous songs together atop an overly cluttered, fragmented UI in a bizarre attempt to create the impression of being sophisticated.

...a collision between two cars wouldn't sound like the side of a plastic trash can being lightly tapped with a bongo.

...the model for every object on a track in this realistic racing sim would have more than three polygons, and the textures would have some sort of shader applied to them to give the impression of depth, instead of taking the Bad Day LA approach.

...you wouldn't get a bizarre warning that your driver's jumpsuit can NEVER BE CHANGED SO PROCEED WITH CAUTION for some arbitrary reason.

...message boards wouldn't be filled with posts like "what were you expecting, this is a driving simulator, not some flashy neon kart racer".

:D Just for lulz: http://www.somethingawful.com/d/video-game-article/gran-turismo-potter.php

The game is awesome

IGN is still busy with the game review and that review is only their initial thoughts after about 20 seconds of gameplay.

Can't spell IGNorance without IGN

I am still trying to unlock that damn top gear track....also i am kinda a noob when it comes to gt games or racing games in general, but how do i get more cars to race in arcade mode, i usually play racing games with other people and we really wanna do a bugatti race on the daytona track

Ya, cause 8.5 is a bad score, i swear some people are spoilt these days or just cant accept that every game will have its faults, and i gotta say they were spot on with the faults in this game, game is still fun though.

I friggen love licenses! Even back in '01...Always trying to get a gold, but nothing less than silver.

I finished up A/B & IC1 licenses and got an Acura prototype - good lord that thing rockets!

Most fun in the game has to be kart-racing! :p

B-type racing where you manage a driver & give in-race instructions is quite interesting...

Gripes:

- The menu is cluttered.
- The car selection sucks. Would love to see more visuals!

^^^ This is what GT games are about.....The GOLD medal!! Drive the Ring with the AMG driving academy....damn, Stage 2: 2.21.000 (Gold)...my best time so far is 2.23.001! I don't know where I'll find the extra 2 seconds! Already like on my 20th run.....AND the wife is getting on my nerves, he....(only get like 1 hour PS3 time in the eve.....aaaaaaaarrrrgghhh)...

Generally people to enjoy moaning about everything.

I've put in about 10hours into the game so far, and I am loving every bit of it.
Currently my favourite car must be the Hommel Berlinette RS, lightly tuned. Think I have hit the car's limit, any more tuning and the tail will whip out all the time. Right now I can still control the slides. Almost done with all my golds in Amateur.

:)

i've been playing for 3 days solid and i've got over 80 cars including 458 italia, countach, murcielago lp640, gallardo lp560, 512BB '76, sls amg, 300 sl gullwing, veyron, ferrari california, mclaren mp4-12c, stealth models and chrome cars. finished the beginner, amateur and proffessional series and currently busy with expert and extreme series. all licenses are complete and just trying to get gold in all
