CNet has reported on some rather odd flowers that have been popping up around the United States. In collaboration with Toyota, two artists from Poetic Kinetics have created the mobile Solar Flower Lounge.
The five ‘lounges’ have been touring the US and are supposedly an attempt by Toyota marketing guru’s to draw attention to the new Toyota Prius marketing theme of “Harmony Between Man, Nature, and Machine.” What giant solar powered, Wi-Fi emitting flowers with seats have to do with hybrid petrol/electric cars is anyone’s guess.
Like a grown up and sober version of Alice, who has left her Wonderland days far behind for the fast paced and connected modern world, visitors can enjoy the magical offerings of free solar power and Wi-Fi. Each lounge has seating capacity for 10 people. The solar panels in the petals provide charge to the 110V outlets, and the flower head emits a wireless 3G connection.
Thanks to internal batteries, the Flower Lounge functions at night, with LEDs illuminating the general Flower Lounge area. Toyota is considering sponsoring permanent versions due to the positive public response.
