Hickups in tech supply chain could leave you dry this Xmas
It is that time of year again folks! The time of year where the streets in Johannesburg and Pretoria get less cluttered, the freeways less congested and people get a lot more friendly. It is the time of year when the restaurants close to just before New Years for a week to get a bit of sleep and computer suppliers seize up in supplying the truly hard core hardware! Of course I am exaggerating but there is a shortage of mid to high end gaming graphics cards. Who knows what else is out of stock?!!? I know there are some server boards in zero supply around the country but that won’t really hit the general consumer market hard, but come on man, it is Xmas after all! If there is something like upgrade season, this is it!
This is bound to lose some computer dealers some money but it is not the end of the world I suppose. New deliveries on some tech will only be done come 2010. That is so next year, isn’t it?!!? The bigger retail stores might have some built up stock, but I assume they won’t be able to meet demand from what I have seen myself in the supply chain today. I am not going to go out on a crusade about this but the wholesale suppliers have dropped the ball, no doubt about it. I would like folks reading this to share what they cannot track down this holiday season. If there is something you wanted but could not find, but expected to be in stock, then list it here please.
Are you planning on spending a little bit of cash on something nice for yourself or somebody else. What will it be? I am going to create a poll on the forum for you to contribute to and keep an eye on for this Xmas. You can find it here.
