The movie world has educated most of us on the topic of finger print identification, but the movies of the future may be filled with finger vein identification after it was discovered that this method is more accurate.
Sony’s new Mofiria uses near infrared LEDs to shine on the side of the user’s finger, and then CMOS sensors capture the scattered light inside the finger veins.
Apparently, scanning the finger veins is not only a more accurate way of determining a person’s ID but criminals can’t get away with false fingerprints or thee myth of fogging up the biometric scanner with your breath, and the Mafia cant just cut off your finger because finger vein ID needs the blood to be flowing for it to work!
Since these finger-vein scanners are flat like biometric scanners, they will be easy to integrate in devices like cellphones and laptops. According to a recent Press Release, Sony hopes to have this new technology on devices “sometime within the 2009 fiscal year”
