Adult film producer Vivid Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against the Porn YouTube clone PornoTube and its parent company Data Conversions.
According to the LA Times this lawsuit is ‘the first of its kind in the adult film industry, which has done a better job than the major Hollywood studios in finding ways to profit from putting entertainment products on the Internet.’
The LA Times quotes Vivid co-Chairman Steven Hirsch as saying that “We’ve decided to take a stand and say ‘no more’. We will go after all the free sites.”
“The suit accuses PornoTube of hosting excerpts of tapes that include such Vivid titles as ‘Night Nurses’, ‘Where the Boys Aren’t 7’ and the private work of TV personality Kim Kardashian. The suit seeks damages of $150,000 per infringed work.”
The LA Times article further quotes Farley Cahen, publisher of Adult Video News Online magazine, as saying that “In the past, it was peer-to-peer networks that took a modest amount of technical ability to use. Now, there’s PornoTube, XTube, RedTube — any kind of -Tube you can think of.”
