Default ABSA and FICA and Lease Agreement

    Short Story:
ABSA refused to accept my legally binding lease agreement for FICA, I will therefore not be changing my address with them till the next time I move.
    Quite Bizzare.
Has this rubbish happened to anybody else with ABSA or another bank?

    Long Story:
Being a good honorable chap I drive all the way to a mall, walked roughly 1 kilometer to the ABSA bank and stood in the "customer services" queue for 14 minutes and handed the nice lady behind the counter my Lease Agreement and my ID Book.

She looked over my lease agreement and informed me that they will not accept it. So I asked: It's a legally binding lease agreement, an original, and "they" won't accept it?

She hands over my id book and my lease to the person next to her and they agree with themselves.

She then tells me that she will print out a form designed by ABSA that they will accept. I get this form, and I fill it in with her watching, politely ignoring her requests that I move away.

In every part of their form, where they required detail, I pointed out to the section number of the lease that contains that detail. e.g. See section 7 in the attached lease. I then handed the form and the lease back to her. Everything on their form is covered in the lease.

She simply shook her head and said that the form is not acceptable.

I politely took my documents and ID book off her desk and said: Fine, don't change the address then, no skin off my back.

    Walked out.
I tried, sorry FICA, better luck next time I move.

Has this rubbish happened to anybody else with ABSA or another bank?

This means that I must come back to the bank after getting my landlord's signature on it.

I've seen a crumpled letter from the chief of an obscure remote village accepted as FICA proof of address document. I've also seen a lease Agreement used for FICA and later determined fake, this to open an account for fraud purposes. Moral of the story, FICA does jack-***** except to make the honest person's life a little more frustrating at the hands of the criminally minded.

Try changing your wifes surname, since she is now married. Not even the new ID book was enough.
Has to fill in a form that basically says she is renting a room with me. Said form took five attempt to fill in, as the bank personal did not know how to make the form function in this way.
Apparently it is not accepted that the wife will stay with her husband, and that she might not have an electricity bill in her name.

Would be interesting to know the amount of extra paper used for FICA compliance, world wide. We are supposed to be conserving! There must be an alternative to this nonsense.

Wait? What? Like, perhaps a central system.
Like perhaps the ID Book System currently "run" by the minister of home affairs.
Na, don't be doff man. Pfffft.

    AWESOME!
Very interesting, thanks, seems that perhaps light may yet dawn in our futures.

I wonder if it's going to cost R36 to FICA in e-Natis style fee's when this is implemented.
Somehow I don't see me forking out the money.
