Question for the homosexual guys

how do you know if someone is gay by looking at them?
This excludes the femine males where anyone can easily see that that person is gay.
What I'm talking about here are the everyday people who do the same things as Hetero's like watch sport drink beer whatever.
People like Neil Patrick harris and Sir Ian McKellen come to mind.
How does a gay guy know that that person who he thinks is sexy is gay?
Or you walking in a mall and you see a guy there you think is handsome and want to hook up with, how do you know he's gay?
6th sense?
Or dont you know and you try your luck hoping the man will be gay?

Seriously though...there are lots of gay guys that you cant tell...even other gay guys. It is a chance that you take if you walk up to such a guy and hit on him. I guess the most telling thing in a situation like in the mall for example is eye contact. If you look at him, he looks at you and there is a "moment" then you in luck. If he looks and then looks away it is either cause he is straight or you are not his type. Either way, move on. :-)

EpicLOL. It all depends on subtle clues. Body language, dress sense, styling, grooming etc, that and what ocleroux said. It's pretty easy to spot em depending on life experience too. And come one, EVERYONE knows or knew thar Sir Ian is/was gay, =D <3 Sir Ian.

Straight guys can spot gay guys easily as well. It's one of those things you just know, I think woman see it less.

We always like thought this one married dude was gay but kept quite and when he and the wife got divorced we shared our thoughts with the woman (not his wife) and they were all like "No ways he's gay" same story with guys like ricky martin etc etc etc, they just don't see the gayness Well the dude has not come out the closet yet but I can only imagine the womens responses when he does, "I can't believe it"

True, but that's not a problem - she will just tell me she's lesbian and I'll be off. Different story when a gay guy approaches a straight man . . . he has the risk of being punched in the face by the straight oak. Not ALL straight men take kindly to gay guys.

And not all Lesbians take kindly to being approached by straight guys =) It's just as easy telling them apart.

I don't agree that an effeminite guy is automatically gay. I've known a few dudes who were effeminate, but not gay (though there is always that question mark hanging over them...).
