Sorry, left out a portion. See here.

EDIT- seems that user did the above already. Maybe it's a bug in Resurrection Remix?

It could be push messages from an app. This app will search for such apps AirPush Detector v 1.1 http://market.android.com/search?q=p...irpushdetector or Addons Detector v 2.3 http://market.android.com/search?q=p...addonsdetector

Are using stock ROM? If you are its from an app you've downloaded.

If you using custom rom and rooted get ad blocker.

Yep, its from an app you installed, thats their new form of advertising.
In my opinion, any app that does this deserves no place on my phone.

Thanks, have found that "Personal Call and Voice Recorder" and "Ringdroid" are enabled to push adverts to my notification bar. Have now blocked both with "LBE Privacy Guard" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...JpdHkubGl0ZSJd)

More something they didn't account for. Other ROM's cater for this though.

OK so I finally took the leap to root and install a ROM to replace my bloated stock. I decided to go with CM9. I think that the CM9 has a great interface, really looks awesome in my opinion, I think that is what ICS is supposed to look like - the one from Vodacom just looks a lot like GB. The battery life improved tremendously, maybe doubled, compared to the stock from Vodacom. Screen even seems more responsive.

Now it was not all smooth sailing. I experienced problems with Swiftkey 3 crashing all the time, I basically can not use it on CM9. Not sure if this has always been an issue. Just quite surprised that a popular app like that doesn't function properly. The other problem I had was SMS. I don't SMS a lot so I only realised this, this morning. What happened was that when I tried to SMS it would not go through and I would experience network loss which forced me to reboot.

So I am on my next adventure in search of another ROM. I'm gonna browse around here and see what other people are using. If you read this and have any recommendations, I'd really appreciate that.

Welcome to the flash brigade. I'm using CM9 rc1, and SwiftKey 3 gives me no problems whatsoever. What versions are you running (of CM and SK)? Have you tried reinstalling SK?

    Welcome to the light

CM9 is still not fully stable, but it is close.

The SMS issue- either sounds like an overwritten efs folder or you just need to update the SMS service centre number. If you search this thread, both should be available (sorry, just had lunch so I'm lazy ).

In terms of other ROM's- so many to choose from. But for something different, try MIUI, and change the launcher. I would also recommend the FoxHound ROM- stable, good battery life and performance.

    You can find them here.

Welcome. This is addictive so kiss your normal phone usage goodbye by adding a lot mor testing and experimenting! AND HAVE FUN!

SK works on CM9. Just uninstall it completely and reinstall. I use Titanium Backup when I uninstall. You can then get rid of data that might prevent proper operation of apps. All roms are not created equal. So with some apps you will find that a complte reinstall is required.

    I'm using cm-9-20120628-NIGHTLY-galaxys2.
    SK is 3.0.0.281.

Haven't tried to reinstall yet. I'll give that a shot. What is the RC1 version of CM9?

Thanks I'll be sure to check that list out! And I'll check that service center number
