Ockie and the dudes in the know...
I am currently on a No phone Talk 200s from the beginning of the year, I have realised I need to migrate UPWARD (spend more money!) to a talk 350s. I was hoping to get the discount associated with the 350s package but thought I will probably just keep my current discount of R129 pm
The buggers get back to me and no, I lose any discount loaded and pay full price should I migrate? This seems a bit rough considering I didn't take a handset from the outset???
I am now sufficiently irritated, in terms of the CPA, I can surely cancel the contract with minimal cancellation fee as there is no handset to be paid off?
Where do I find out how to use CPA to my advantage here
This should not be the case. The reason why I say this is because reduced subs deals are now loaded with the same tariff as the normal deals...but the discount is loaded as if it is a phone finance...but has a minus value. To give you a example, this is how it reflects on my moms line that also has a reduced subs deal currently.
Primary Member: N/A Port Status: I - Ported In Handset In Use: Research in Motion BlackBerry 8520 Curve
Primary MSISDN: N/A Average Spend: R274.14
Financed Deal: N Financed Deal End Date: 2013-08-31 Outstanding on Financed Amount: -R905.25
This will remain on the line untill the contract end date is reached and should not change with a migration...so the discount should remain and will simply be deducted from the new subs of the new package that you move to.
Do not hold me to this though...cause I have never done a migration like this for a individual as I mostly deal with corporate clients.
Now why you loer en kyk gelyk?
Is ek miskien van goud gemake?
According to the Smart deals spreadsheet the Sony Xperia U cost R150/m. Is this correct, and all inclusive? If it is it is a bargain
"SONY ERICSSON XPERIA U @ R 14 PM + SUBSCRIPTION ON SMART LIGHT (TOTAL R149 PM)"

Hi, quick question, is it possible to pay for a contact upfront? Eg pay off your top up 99 now &live stress free for the next two years?
Now why you loer en kyk gelyk?

Quite a bit watered down version of the Xperia S, but still a good deal (I think):

Ockie, is there going to be a new deal run next week ? Any positive surprises?
My dad is getting an iphone 4s 16 GB contract this afternoon. Sadly Cell C's reception at his house is awful so Vodacom was the only real option.
He doesn't really use SMS and the phone will be on wifi at the house and office, plus he's not a major nethead so I think either data package should be fine for him.
Smart Standard (total R469pm)
300 SMS (who cares)
130 minutes any time
60 vodacom
60 weekend
300 mb data
My main concern is him using up those minutes as he's not sure how much time he spends on the phone every month. And then what would the rate be after that...it's like R2 a minute right?
My dad is prepaid and prefers the idea of topping up, hence the sales lady suggested...
Top Up315 (R529pm)
250mb data
+ R315 airtime
Anyone know the rates for this package? If it's also R2 to non Vodacom then we're looking at minutes which aren't that far off the other package...perhaps even less. And 50 mb less data. And no free SMS.
So aside from not being surprised with a bill over and above the contract, I'm struggling to see why this package is R70 more than the other one.
This is what has me really confused. Please advise so I can advise my dad today.
Support on the Top Up packages are normally lower due to the fact that on Top Up contracts, you get your subs right back as airtime...so you pay R315 for Top Up 315 and get R315 airtime back to use. I will be posting the new deals a bit later today on page one. Keep your eyes on that.

Still can't wrap my head around why it's R70 rand more when the other deal, in practicality, sounds like it would amount to a similar number of minutes/airtime a month. I know the deal is more flexible because it's airtime, but given my dad's situation it seems obvious to take the other deal unless there is something that I'm just not understanding.
Thanks, will check the first page. My dad is going at around 3pm so hopefully you've posted before then![]()
