Gary, some people do tend to have trouble to update to 2.2.1, but you can go into MTN or Vodacom and ask them where the closest service center is. In Joburg you can go to Vodaworld in Midrand to do the update if Kies isn't working right.
But Kies first has to update to version 2 I think before it will pick up the 2.2.1 update for your phone.

Just the past Sunday one of the sales persons in Midrand told me that the SGS II would not be coming to SA. Gues that was a booboo. This will be my next phone.

I cant wait to get my hands on a new tab 10.1 ... hopefully they send the new revised model!
My contract is up for renewal in August this year and as I am on the Business 500 with Vodacom, I am concidering porting to Mtm as Vodacom is way too expensive.. My company don't allow Cell C.
Think I may jump ship to Samsung from HTC. The new HTC Desires leads a lot to be... um desired. Still good phones but not enough of an upgrade to warrant an... um, upgrade. Whereas the Samsung S II will feel like a new phone.
Then its just a question of the tab... hmmm.
BTW, for those on the older Galaxy S phones and wondering about Gingerbread.

Can't wait for the Galaxy S2. That will be my new phone.
We're all running on caveman software...My latest threadsI did not have NULL relations with that variable.
While I love my Galaxy S, I will have a large choice to evaluate when my contract renewal comes up. LG, Motorola and Sony Ericsson are all releasing impressively specced dual-core smartphones soon.
With all of the phones looking very capable, it will be perceived service levels that will make my decision for me. HTC and Samsung are currently not in my favorite list due to their bad record in releasing updates to South African smartphones. Hopefully the increased competition will drive some better service levels, since the Galaxy S II do make me drool a bit.
After owning the chunk of rubbish called the Samsung Omnia I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would want to own a Samsung phone.
