I have been using the ZyXEL Modem/router for about 3 years. I obtained this modem free of charge from Telkom provided I retained my ADSL connection for a certain period.
It has been working fine until recently then I noticed that every few days it seems to reset itself which means I get disconnected for a minute or so while it reconnects. This can be a big inconvenience if I am in the middle of doing home banking etc.
The modem is connected to a 600 VA UPS unit which it shares with my P4 computer and a LCD screen. I know that PC's have a low power factor of 0,6 so my actual maximum real power I can obtain is 360 watts from this UPS.
I don't know if my UPS unit (only 2 years old) has a dud battery and is the problem, or this auto resetting of this modem/router is a common problem.
Using my internet browser I looked through the settings of the modem/router trying to find a setting to disable auto resetting which may be a security thing to change my IP address every few days, but did not find anything.
I'd appreciate any news of anyone having a similar problem or if there is a fix for this. I haven't tried the Telkom Internet help-less phone number yet
