I must get some more info on this for my old man and my uncle actually.
So if I like served in the Free State and Pretoria, I can register at say Wingfield?
For sure. They owe me something for taking away 18 months of my life![]()
I am going to forward this to my older brother who was 6SAI Infantry as a National Serviceman in Grahamstown, who after basics spent the rest of his two years on the border.
Afterwards he became part of the Dukes which is part of RWP who called him up every year for camps, marches and just about any time they needed someone, for the maximum amount of days permissible by law at the time. They got him for every single day, with not even one to spare. I forget now, but after the initial two years, camps comprised a 10 or 12 year full cycle broken down into one and three month camps every two years. This did not include the odd one day march down Adderley Street. My brother was even in Zimbabwe in 1980 when they had their elections. They really messed his family life around, not to mention his career.
I am sure he would he a suitable candidate, I just don't think he would be interested.
Celine: "I'm not saying you're stupid, I just think you have bad luck when it comes to thinking."
I just ignored being called up for the camps.
Tried getting hold of Fort Ikapa in Goodwood and either number does not work or just rings. honed 1023 and they have same number then gave me another number and that was 2 Military Hospital.
Does this mean all the guys that served there two years will receive some rebate?
