I'm open to correction but I have just got my 40L and when I went into the bios to check there is an option now for Auto 1.5 and 3 on the POI Sata port.

Heyall. I recently aquired a Samsung BD-E5500 blu ray player running Plex and have it wired on my home network. I also have the HP N40L with openelec/XBMC wired in my man cave connected to the 46" . I would like to use the E5500 streaming from the N40L to another TV but thus far concluded that xbmc and plex dont talk nicely. I can see openelec as a source but the player does not recognise any files. So i asume i will have to run plex server on the HP .
My question is though does plex only run on Windows ( meaning I will have to re install ) and will my existing drives still work (pnp) since its formated with linux , think .
    I have 3 x 2TB . 2 almost full and hate to lose those.
Any better options to suggest pls? Thanks.

If you are going to use Plex then dump the others. I use Plex all over my house quite happily. It is designed for multi room setups.
Plex server runs on Linux too. Check out their website. I am busy playing with an install in Linux Mint at the mo.

The HP chokes under multiple 1080p streams. I ended up turning my HP into a FreeNAS box with 5 x 2TB drives and use an old Core2Duo to run my Plex server (going to upgrade to i3). I ran it on my i7 desktop but felt it was overkill and don't want to run my desktop 24/7.
The HP handled a single 1080p stream or around 3 720p quite okay, so depends on your needs. I was however running Windows which chomps more resources than Linux, which is why I am playing with a Linux Mint setup on one of my other HP's now.

Thanx Mike. Mybiggest fear is losing the existing data when I plug my drives back. I can easily play around with the 250gb. Nothing much to lose there. I doubt I will watch more than one hd . It would just be nice cause the boys alwYs wanna watch when im watching a game.

    Hi

    I need some help please.
    I'm running windows 7 on my HP-ProLiant-MicroServer - on my 250GB drive.

I now want to replace the 250GB drive with a 3TB drive.

The question is how to get the OS , settings , Sickbeard etc from the 250GB HD to the 3TB drive without losing anything.

There is data on the 3TB already.

Can I just clone the partition from the 250GB drive ?

How do I do this practically ?

Any help will be much appreciated

Setup a Linux box with a USB stick and see if your drives are readable. Nice and safe route to go.
I went and purchased a whole lot of 4GB sticks for R35 each so I can experiment with these different OS's. Works a treat when you just want to check stuff out before committing to a decision

Windows 7 System Image (in backup) works great for stuff like this. It will wipe your 3TB unfortunately.

Hi all really need some help

I have the n40l and I'm trying to install windows xp on it (it's the only is os disk I have)

Anyway it goes through the install and then it give me an error that "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"

Also when I start the hp it gives me this error "pse-e61: media test failure"

Anyone else experience this? Google says it's possibly a bad hard drive...I've tried changing some of the settings in the bios with no luck

Anyone else have this same problem and manage to solve it ?

I believe someone already mentioned that XP is not a supported OS on this platform. You might well also have a hardware issue, but troubleshooting it is going to be a lot harder if you're not working within the framework of what's supported.
