Been running PC's 24/7/365 for years. Power failures have never caused data corruption. Personally never needed a UPS.

I'd say consider yourself lucky. I've had an issue or two. Had to roll back when a failure struck during an update.

Is all depend what you want, like how long do you need the system to be on when power is out.

Use this tool, it will give you some insight what to look for.

    Thanks. Will use this tool.

Any good recommendation of an ups?
What's the standard run time for my use?

I'm quite happy with this one http://www.apc.com/products/resource...otal_watts=200

Just make sure about the plugs. There is an EU model standard. This one specifically has ZA plugs so you can easily connect your multi-plugs.

It's really just there to shut things down cleanly. Runtime is about 15min, but I have a lot of things connected. Server, switch, router, 2xAPs.

    I use only APC's.

If your machine will support it try the CS 350 which includes the communications software for auto shut-down etc.

Else save some money and use the CS 325.

    Available from Sybaritic: http://sybaritic.co.za/store/

    Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before but has anyone managed to connect a dvdrom to the esata drive? If so how did you get it working? I connected one to my servers esata port but not getting anything picked in windows and the drive has no power.

The Esata at the back? Esata doesn't carry power - you need to power it independently.

How about this: RCT Line-Interactive UPS - 650VA?

The APC products are very expensive.

I have that exact UPS for my server. I can't complain, it functions.
When ordering for business, I only choose APC.

I don't know the product so I am unable to comment.

BTW my APC has survived both a lightning strike and a municipal "floating neutral" problem that fed 380V through my house ...

Can the UPS execute a safe shutdown incase of a surge or failure?

If you have an APC with the communications facility / software it can close down (and restart) the computer in the event of a power failure i.e. when the computer is running off the batteries.

With regard to prices: with the current exchange rate the cheapest APC is R862 at Sybaritic.
