Thread: No calls, sms on Virgin

Angry No calls, sms on Virgin

The last 4+ hours, I haven't been able to make or receive any calls or smses on Virgin. I tried calling my phone from Skype and it just says unknown number. I can't even call voicemail or check my balance even though there's network reception. It just says call failed. I'm wondering if its my phone finally giving in after about 4 years or if its a Virgin issue? Anyone else having the same problem?

Have you ported to Virgin? I found all kinds of call routing problems popping up even years afterwards...

It would say it has signal but I couldn't actually do anything on the network. Sometimes, trying to make a call would lock up the phone and force me to restart it, after which everything works. I was starting to wonder if its my phone at fault but it was only happening once every now and then at the beginning but it was getting more frequent, up to just about every few days .

Last week I got fed up when my phone locked up on me 4 times within 5 hours. I borrowed another phone and tada no problems for a few days - so its my phone thats the problem. Funny thing, I put a vodacom sim into my old phone and also no problems for a few days. So now I'm confused, I put my VM sim back into my old phone to see if it still fails and its been working fine for the last 3 days. WTH, must have been the network then but how does the network cause my phone to freeze?!

Touch wood, hope it keeps working!

Check the towers you are receiving from on your phone. Sometimes with Virgin you are kicked from one tower to the next every minute or two. A few handsets don't like that and eventually locks or show signs of strange behavior as a result.

I've been with Virgin for about 3 years now and sadly this happens often. I received a sms 2 hours after the person sent it yesterday. Someone trying to contact me said it just kept going to voicemail. The data is down often... not the greatest, really wish they would improve their services cuz their prices are gr8.

Strange. My side has been fine all day - Only major issue the last couple of months was when Vodascum was down and I had no connection due to that...
