Samsung Galaxy 10.1, no SD card slot, MAJOR FAIL! - MAJOR RANT!!

Hi all, just in case you were thinking of getting a 10.1 tablet, be forewarned that your uber kick ass dual core nvidia full HD device is heavily limited by having only 16GB memory on board that is non upgradeable, thereby , in my opinion, seriously "taking the legs off at the knees", so to speak, of the potential usefulness of the device.

Furthermore, what doesnt make sense is that the old Samsung tablet HAD A SD MEMORY CARD SLOT!!!!! I mean come on!!!! It just doesnt make sense

Motorola XOOM has a MEMORY CARD SLOT, so why not the samsung!!!!

I'm so pissed off cause I would love one, but I know I would be hitting my head against the wall running out of memory, 16 GB, my oooollldddd Samsung Omnia has 32GB. THERES NO EXCUSE SAMSUNG SHOT THEMSELVES IN THE FOOT HERE. Big mistake!!!

OK guys, I'm going to admit I got a bit carried away, I decided to get myself one and rate it personally. I'm very impressed and I have discovered that an adapter will be coming soon, that will enable USB and sd capability. I take back what I said and i think samsung have done a great job with this device.

And now to top it off, owners are saying theres no USB2 port as per the spec? BLAH, this has to be the worst thing ever, its like saying, heres your new porsche sir, but it doesnt come with a key, has 3 wheels and a wrench for a steering wheel. u can still drive it but its going to be really crap.

There are two versions of the Samsung 10 inch tablet, the 10.1, and the 10.1v (yeah, great naming scheme there Samsung).

I believe Vodacom currently has stock of the 10.1v, but not the 10.1 (which was only released in the US recently, and should arrive in ZA mid-July).

The important thing here is the two versions have different specs. The 10.1v is thicker, has a 8MP camera, and no SD capacity, whilst the 10.1 is thinner than the iPad2, has a 3MP camera, and SD slot. Those are the main differences I can remember..... I'd get some full specs, but I'm too lazy :P

Summary: just wait a month and make sure you get the right 10.1

Note if you do get the no SD version many games/Apps wont work as well.

I see a problem with many apps that download the data to the SD card dont have a option to store it on the same filesystem as the apk. People are complaining about this all over the forums in regard to the Samsung's that dont have SD card slots.

Haha! Thanx, but your post has moved me from annoyed to just inconsolable. The one VC has in stock at the moment, they say, is the P7100 Tab 10.1. I have yet to see either of the 10.1's with an SD slot or USB, as per the supposed specs online.....can u please send me that spec link?

ok, ok, phew, theres light at the end of the tunnel! So one dude at the vodacom shop eventually sounded like he knew the difference.
It is correct, the 10.1v is the non USB, non SD card, BASTARD child. U see, they release the lower models first and then work their way up.
Everyone does this, INTEL, WINDOWS, all the device and electronics manufacturers. Its bloody annoying to say the least.

Anyways, I still would like to confirm this but yes, the 10.1v is the older model with 8mpix camera and noooooo SD card slot and noooo USB....<spit>
The 10.1 3G model is the one we want, its got both USB and memory card slot yaaaayy.

Still going to try confirm this though as there still seems a hell of a lot of confusion between the two, but I think thats the real story, unless anyone else has found something different?

As far as I can tell, the P7100 and the 10.1v are the same thing, although I stand to be corrected.

Please note that the spec in that link is from 22 March 2011, so it is possible that Samsung did remove features before the official launch. Since it was only released in the US today, will have to wait and see. Should be a couple of reviews available by the end of the week at least.

If they did remove features, then by all means, rant away. You would not be the only one :P

You love Apple because of all the stuff you are not getting? Interesting......although, come to think of it, I don't recall old Steve admitting that Apple products ever have anything missing, or at least anything that you would want.

I would think that its more likely that you love Apple because of their awesome PR and marketing..... but hey, maybe I'm just cynical :P

Disclaimer: following statement is general and not directed at anyone specific, I'm just ranting a bit myself :P

In the end, you can prefer one product over another, as long as you can back it up with more than the usual fanboi slogans and cliche statements. I dislike it when people go around bashing other products/companies simply because its not the one that they are supporting. Instead of comparing the merits of both products, they just go and point out the flaws in the one and how they are not present in the other.....but conveniently ignore the flaws in their own product which have been trumped by their competitor.

As a consumer, I prefer it when companies are constantly trying to one-up each other with their products, instead of trying to brainwash the consumers into believing that their product is the only one they will ever need and any innovation would be a waste of time. Or suing each other every other week.

Brand loyalty can be a scary thing.....

There definitely is 2 models both called P7100 Galaxies, but one is 10.1v (no usb and sd slot, but has 8mpx camera) and the other is the newer one just released, called the P7100 10.1 3G model, which supposedly sports the usb port, sd slot and only a 3mpx camera, but ya agreed, lets see what the reviews pump out.

That's odd because on other devices that isn't a problem, the internal memory has 2Gb or so for app and the rest acts like an SD card which is used for file storage.

Heres the real kicker, the 10.1v 8mpixel camera version with no sd slot and usb is 399pm on a mygig 500

Just saw, the new 10.1 3G with usb and sd slot is a whopping 439pm......geez!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new 10.1 has not launched with 3G

Vodacom has upped the price of the 10.1V to R429 per month.

The new 10.1 has no USB slot, and no SD card slot - Check the google IO guys that got them at the google conference.

I wish somebody would release a review that went a bit further than just an 'on paper' specification comparison.
