Evening All;

So, my Belkin has decided to give me grief. It's constantly freezing up and needs a power cycle every couple of hours. Its driving me bonkers. I'm in the market for a new ADSL router. Here are a couple of things I consider important:

  1. 150Mbps at a minimum
  2. An acceptable range at 20 meters
  3. Must support half-bridge mode or similar
  4. Must support ADSL to 24Mbps (wishful thinking aka line stats)
  5. SNMP is a MUST HAVE

Okay, I think that's all. I'd rather not pay more than R1200.00... but that's negotiable. I was looking at this one http://www.trendnet.com/langen/products/proddetail.asp?prod=220_TEW-658BRM&cat=165 but I'm not sure what people's experiences have been with that brand (TRENDnet)?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I don't know Trendnet at all, but that one that you listed doesn't seem to have SNMP either. It has only TR-069 - just like the TP-Link units.

Have a look at:
1)
TP-Link TD-W8960N 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+ Router @ R499.00 (excl VAT & shipping)
The only thing that I'm not sure if it has it is SNMP. You might be able to ask Uniterm Direct if it has SNMP, but I actually doubt it since its not in the datasheet.

2)
The other alternative would be to get a D-Link DSL-2500U ADSL modem for under R200, and then pair it up with like a TP-LINK WR1043ND 300Mbps Ultimate Wireless N Gigabit Router (R545.00 excl VAT & shipping).
Both of these routers have SNMP, if you install DD-WRT firmware on the TP-Link. The D-Link one is actually of the best ADSL modems out there, especially if you want 4Mbps ADSL and your line attenuation is in the region of 50dB, in which case most other ADSL modems would only allow you up to 1Mbps.

Awesome, thats fantastic :) Just trying to get a gist of where people stand with routers these days. TP-Link is a reliable thing right? This Belkin I have was R1600 bucks three years ago and its haddit; time has made me complacent to upgrade...

Weirdly, they often don't specify SNMP on the datasheets... but its in the user manual for some of them. Thanks for the advice :)

*just checked the TP-Link user manual; it says it has an SNMP agent; so it might just be perfect :)

I'm pretty sure other forum members should be able to verify for you if the TP-Link W8960N has SNMP, because I know of quite a few who has one - eg. Merenwenrago ;)

Thanks for the tip w.r.t. the user manual. I think I've actually looked through the TP-Link's user manual previously - also to determine if it has SNMP support, and it did have it IIRC.
From the User Guide the W8960N actually has SNMP support like you said.

The TP-Link routers/modems are really top quality ones. The past year or so I've just recommended D-Link & TP-Link modems, and Cisco/Linksys ones for those who had too much money, who wanted Dual Band + streaming related stuff.
So ja, you really won't be disappointed with the TP-Link one.

Well, you've got me sold. Just placed an order now. Did some snooping on the web and round very favorable reviews for the TP-Link. SO thanks for you help and recommendation. I reckon R499 excl VAT and courier is a damn bargain!
