Thread: Which spam management approach do you prefer?

Default Which spam management approach do you prefer?

Opt-in: You only receive direct marketing you have consented to receive or which is relevant to a recent commercial relationship you had with the sender.

Opt-out: You only stop receiving direct marketing when you ask to stop receiving it through unsubscribing from a distribution list.

Opt-in - but it's wishful thinking. Spam by definition is unsolicited.

    Opt-in.

Mixed feelings about this. It's always good to know about new deals and competitions, but on the other hand, no one likes to get spammed.

    Opt-in, definitely.
But if it were Opt-in, it wouldn't be SPAM.
My preferred SPAM management approach is - don't get any. If you do, delete it straight away. Opting out rarely works and just ends up costing you money or leading to even more SPAM.

    Opt in, naturally.

    Double Opt-in.

As far as actual spam goes, all my mail accounts are now either on GMail/Google Apps or behind a smart host. The times of desktop-based spam filters are a distant past.

Agree, GMail handles spam exceptionally well.

    +1 for Opt-In.

I especially hate those few spam messages that slip through -- I don't want to send them an unsubscribe message because then they know they have a live address and I suddenly get MORE SPAM than before!

Even worse, some companies CLAIM that I have opted in for their SPAM, when I KNOW that I haven't!

I currently use a whitelist on one of my accounts. That is the one that received the least spam. :-p

Lets be honest. Spam is spam. Some people might call it "marketing". I call it taking shots in the dark. There are way better and more effective marketing strategies than spamming someone. And is it not a no brainer that 100% of voters are voting opt-in?
You have what you have now. Make it count.

Where spammers are ground up, put into cans and sold to Americans as processed meat with an astonishingly similar name.
