8ta 10GB special versus ADSL pricing

8ta recently launched their 10GB for R199 promotion. This is how 8ta’s mobile broadband pricing compares to similar ADSL offerings

I'm covered. But coverage is the issue here.
If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.

Total 24 month cost should add up to R4776 if just taking 199 x 24. What is the other costs included in the R5325 figure?
Cell C cant fix simple issues and have bad customer support:

    The total cost includes a Modem (7.2Mbps @ R349), Installation/Activation (R200) and the monthly data cost (R199) - hence R5325.

Who's network do they use? I don't exactly see 8ta masts popping up... are they on MTN, Vodacom?

They only use their own (Telkom Mobile/8ta) network. While they have a roaming agreement with MTN, this deal is only available on the 8ta network.

Gallery about their base stations here: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/images...on-photos.html

You may notice that they use Billboards for sites, and also co-locate with the other cellular providers which may explain why you don't see many new sites.

As per yesterdays article this offer uses the 8ta network and not the MTN roaming network like the other 8ta products...

Pretty obvious that it would be cheaper... less network to maintain, fewer staff required to plan, build and maintain the network. Better quality staff...

Staff costs are the ADSL killer as it is a labour intensive exercise.

24 months on a contract now is toooo long, things could change and there could be better deals coming from the other service providers than you are stuck in the 24 month contract...I still have till feb with Cell C.

This is definitely going to shake up the market. Forget Telkom with their ADSL, I think Cell C's brains must be frying by now.

I've had ADSL since it first became available in my area (Pierre van Ryneveld). In Jan 2011 my line was down more than it was up and on three different occasions a Telkom tech arranged for me to be at home so they could repair the fault, and all three times nobody pitched. I got fed up with the poor service and cancelled the ADSL part of the line in favour of CellC's 3G promotion. Fortunately I have good signal in my area. I bought two 5GB packages on a 1 year contract thinking that in a years time with LLU I might consider ADSL again.

So far the ADSL prospects aren't looking too good, and I'm considering getting an 8ta bundle too. Even on a 24 month contract R199/month for 10GB sounds good, and I doubt ANY ISP is going to make me regret this in the next 24 months.

And if any of them does come up with a much better deal, we all win
