dont know about the web, but sabc's newbreak offer a service via sms:

Matric results can also be obtained on the SABC's Newsbreak service by dialling 082 152 and then choosing option 6. Have your examination number and ID number on hand to have your results read back to you.

That newsbreak serivice didn't work when I tried it. It gave me the wrong results, told me the wrong subjects and marks. Hopefully it will work this year!

SUBJECT: ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RESULTS OF THE 2005 SENIOR CERTIFICATE
    EXAMINATION
    1. In order to enable principals to make the necessary arrangements for collecting and checking results, the following target dates and related information are provided. Please note that these dates and times are only tentative and that any changes in the arrangements will appear in the press. EMDCs will be kept fully informed.
    1.1

Thursday, 29 December 2005 at 08:00: Principals may fetch results at EMDCs.

    NB: Not before 08:00

1.2 Principals are given 4 hours to check the results for any obvious errors.
    1.3

Thursday, 29 December 2005 at 12:00: Results may be given to candidates at the respective schools.

NB: NO results may be made known to candidates and NO information in this regard may be given to the press before 12:00.

1.4 Thursday, 29 December 2005 at 09:00: Provincial Minister releases the results.
1.5 Thursday, 29 December 2005 at 12:00: National Minister releases the national results.
1.6 Friday, 30 December 2005 at 06:00: Results in the press and on the WCED website
1.7 Thursday, 5 January 2006 after 12:00: Results not collected are posted to the schools by the EMDCs.
    2. As it is imperative that all parties adhere strictly to these arrangements, your co-operation in this regard is essential.
    3. The Senior Certificate examination results will also be available on the following website: http://wced.wcape.gov.za.
Candidates will have to enter their examination numbers and their identity numbers.
    4. ...
    5. The following information will be made available to the media:

    *

Names and examination numbers of candidates who passed, per school per district. The following symbols are used: E - Endorsement; M - Endorsement (Merit); D - Endorsement (Distinction); S - Senior Certificate; N - Senior Certificate (Merit); P - Senior Certificate (Distinction). The subjects in which candidates obtained distinctions (A symbols) will also be indicated.
    *

The names of candidates who have excelled in the examination by obtaining a pass with Distinction (aggregate of 1680 or more) or a pass with Merit (aggregate between 1260 and 1679)
    *

The name of each school’s top candidate
    *

The names of the top three candidates (with a minimum of 80%) in each Higher Grade and Standard Grade subject

    6. As it is of the utmost importance that candidates who do not pass the examination be offered support and counselli/ng, all candidates must be informed before the final examination that such services are available. Counselling can be given at the school when candidates receive their results or, if applicable, at the relevant EMDC where staff will be available. If a principal refers a candidate to an EMDC, he/she must give the candidate the telephone number and address of the EMDC and provide the EMDC with the candidate’s details. Principals must be aware that, as those in the most dire need of counselling often do not seek counselling, they must be alert to the feelings of candidates whose expectations have not been realised.
