Thread: So my Acer Aspire 7741G is slow, is that normal?

  1. #1

Default So my Acer Aspire 7741G is slow, is that normal?

I've had my laptop for about a year now, its specifications are as follows:
    - Intel Core i5 processor
    - 4 GB memory
    - 640 GB HDD
    - 2.26 GHz
    - 1 GB Graphics
    - Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1

It used to be fast, for example when switching on the laptop it would start and I would immediately be able to play music without it stalling or something. But now it does, it's not a big problem, it's just frustrating sometimes. I would start up my laptop, then open up my windows player but will take time for music to play. It's as if it freezes for a minute or two before commencing to play that song or video from my files.

I bought an Avast anti-virus last year and it's always up to date, so I hope it's not because of a virus or other malicious software that might have made their way to my laptop.

So my question is, is it normal for laptops with that high spec to be slow and freeze sometimes?

Install Ccleaner, this will sort out your problems

Like your motor-car you need to service your notebook, Ccleaner will do it.

    ?

    Really don't follow this advice.

Ccleaner is an application and if you don't know how to use it, it will give you worse problems than you have now.

Format is last resort as well.

So let's start from the top (for reference, I have a Core2Duo, 2GB Ram system and I play music almost instantly when I log on from a cold boot).

What startup applications do you have? Please give me a full list.
Use Windows Button and R (on your keyboard) and type msconfig and press enter or ok.

Look at the startup tab and list the programs here.

We can take it from there.

    Thanks for the advice

My startup programs as per your instructions are:
    - IconUtility
    - MyWinlocker
    - Reatek HD Audio Manager
    - DefaultSettingEXE Application
    - Synaptics pointing devise driver
    - Power Management
    - ISUSPM
    - Wordweb
    - Skype
    - Adobe Acrobat
    - IAStorIcon
    - Acer Backup Manager
    - EgisTec In-Product Service
    - Catalyst Control Center
    - Launch Manager
    - Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager
    - Avast! Antivirus
    - Vodafone Mobile Broadband
    - Java (TM) Platform SE Auto Updater 2 0
    - Microsoft OneNote
    - ZooskMessenger
    - Bluetooth Software

I thought I deleted Zoosk messenger a long time ago, seems like it hasn't been deleted and I don't know how to completely remove it from my system. I've deselected Skype as a start-up program. I have no idea what most of the other programs are on the above list.

    Ok next step.

    Download Autoruns

Open the Autoruns EXE from the Zip file (no need to extract it).

Go to Logon and WinLogon (it should scan your system, so give it a minute).

Deselect the Checkbox for the following applications:
    - IconUtility
    - MyWinlocker
    - DefaultSettingEXE Application
    - ISUSPM
    - Wordweb
    - Skype
    - Adobe Acrobat
    - EgisTec In-Product Service
    - Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager
    - Java (TM) Platform SE Auto Updater 2 0
    - Microsoft OneNote
    - ZooskMessenger

Autoruns may ask you to run the Program as Administrator and relaunch, so just click the relevant option to run it as Admin.

Zooskmessenger as above, you could right click the startup option and delete it.

Reboot your PC and see if it has improved. I can help you to optimize it further, but let me know if this worked first.

Also disable that at start up, its a dog of an app. Rather just run it when you insert your 3G card/stick if it doesn't launch automatically.
